If I am moving out on the 5/1?

We found a bigger house that will accommodate our family better. We are able to move in on May 1st. Do I have to still pay my current landlord rent for the month of May? And if not, how long does he have to give us to move completely out before charging us rent? If it takes us until the 3rd to move everything is that ok? Oh and I am not in any lease contract right now, and we live in Missouri.

You would need to be out by April 30th in order to not owe any rent for May. He does not have to give you any extra time but he might be willing to prorate the rent if he does not have another tenant waiting and you have given him enough notice.

If it takes you until the 3rd.. yes you do have to pay rent.. because they probably want a new tenant in there right away. Make sure you send a certified 30 day notice.. i've known people that didn't send a certified notice and they're landlords claimed they didn't give notice ..

Your a month to month tenant without a lease. You pay rent by the month...NOT by the day. If you occupy the premises any day during the month of May...then you must pay for the full month.

you owe for the entire month of May. Rents are not prorated. Make sure you give 30 days written notice and mail it

Check your lease, it should specifically spell out what happens in the exact situation that you describe.
