Skeptics: Has all your hard work in this section finally paid off?

I've been doing a lot of thinking...I went through a large amount of resolved questions in this section and I looked over my own questions and the answers that I received. Reading everything at once, the barrage of logical explanations was like a pick axe, chipping away at my firm resolve and belief in the paranormal. My own questions seemed silly to me and illogical. I realized that it was time to turn over a new leaf and stop believing in things that I can't prove to others. Matter of fact, I scheduled an appointment with a psychologist this morning, I'll be seeing him Monday about my tendency to hallucinate and hear voices. He said that there are certain medications that can help to control that. I've got a lot of work to do, a lot of "un-conditioning" and therapy. My first conclusion to a bump in the night is still a ghost but I think that it will get better with time.

When I think of all the hard effort of Tuk, Wushuboy, TR, Nice Guy and others, hanging out here with all the believers, trying to show them the way...I can only be thankful that it has finally sunk in and I am so sorry for giving you all such a hard time. *hugs*

So *sighs* that's that. This is WitchyMel, crossing over to the other side...and I don't mean the spirit world...because sadly, it doesn't exist.

Update:

April Fools Day! :) :) :)

It's good to see that everyone has such a good sense of humor! TR, you totally blew my cover. I would have loved to have heard Tuk gush over me.

I cracked myself up writing this, I couldn't stop laughing. Honestly, this was a totally selfish mission to amuse myself and I really did. ;D

It was all in good fun though and not meant to upset anyone, believer or skeptic. *hugs* I hope you all had fun with this too. :)

OMG another RANdroid :-O (A follower of James Randi who believes in the Randi Challenge.)

No wait OM.......evolution, God does not exist either!

Dr.Dr. Tom can help with the "un-conditioning" if you would like.

I prescribe an active therapy plan! Even if it does not help to cure your misdirected ways, it will be beneficial to nature, make life more enjoyable and add to your physical fitness.

1.) Stop turning over leaves, rake them up and place them in a compost bin.

2.) Enjoy the hallucinations, aside from stimulating more creativity in life they are generally more enjoyable than the depressive and negative outlook one may develop by constantly repeating the same canned answers to questions and becoming stagnant to life on the limited knowledge science has of life and existence compared to what may be learned in the future.

3.) When you hear voices, answer back! Allow yourself to hold intelligent conversations with the voices and you may develop a better insight of your repressed fears and fantasies. At the same time save electricity because you would turn off the television, radio or other distractions.

4.) If you hear a bump in the night and you jump to a conclusion, also jump up and do "The Bump". (A dance from the 'Disco' era. This will stimulate your circulation and improve your cardiovascular health.

5.) Create multiple accounts so that you may give yourself sufficient votes to guarantee best answer should one of the questions you answer goes to vote. This may not only strokes your ego by giving you the satisfaction that a "believer" does not get more votes if the voting were to be done honestly, you may choose to raise the other accounts to a level where you may also give multiple T/U & T/D.

(Raising the accounts above level 1 is not required and is strictly a personal choice.)

Follow these four steps and you should be feeling better about yourself and have a more realistic view of life by tomorrow. This therapy should be repeated annually.

If this therapy is successful, your potion of the bill is just 10 points!

Well,I hope that you are truly happy with your new self. I liked you just as you were & will continue to like you regardless what you believe. I have been doing some thinking & studying myself, and although I still believe there's a spirit world out there,I've been chalking a lot more things up as rational explanations. There are some things I'll never be able to explain, but I don't need an explanation to every single thing. I don't have to believe in everything,or be a total skeptic. I'm just going to be myself & if I post things that are "as is" & let everyone answer in their own opinion then I will respect their opinion. I don't appreciate being condemned for my beliefs or flat out insulted or called cruel names, but some people just can't be happy unless they are putting someone down. That's just life.

I guess because I was raised Protestant and do believe in God,it makes demons & spirits and everything else more easily acceptable to me.

If I had the technology in my hands when I needed it I surely would have recorded or filmed everything I experienced, but unfortunately I don't even own a cell phone so I couldn't have just pulled it out of my pocket & snapped a photo. I understand it's easy for skeptics to question WHY believers didn't film or photograph experiences, but a lot of us just don't have anything to do that with, and most things happen unexpectedly. It would be great if there was actually a ghost that appeared at a certain time & place but the closest I ever had of that was the driveway noises & footsteps, but there was nothing visible. So I couldn't film anything. And any noise could have been recorded, that would not have proven anything. So,I guess I'm just going to be more aware of rational explanations. And those that can't be explained will remain as paranormal experiences to me.

I wish you all the happiness in the world. You're a great person. I don't know you personally, but you've always been respectful and courteous in everything you have posted.

    So good luck Mel.

    Peace to you,always!

Just a thought here, but isn't it ok for T Raider & reiki to believe whatever they want? They are not trying to change anyone else so does anyone else need to be trying to change them? Just sayin'....ya kno?

Source(s): just my opinion Happy April Fools ! (If you ever DO change,I mean everything I said above!) Oh yeah...I have UNBLOCKED several people & hope they can resist the immaturity of name calling. Just want opinions from all kinds of people. Even if we disagree.

Well, that was too funny! Too bad it was a joke! I still like your persona here any way. Of course, there is still hope, and we'll all cling to that. Sorry Witchy Mel for the following, but I have no other means to communicate with other user, and I am aware that it is a possible violation.

@ Missy: I couldn't help but notice that I was not unblocked. This is a pity, as I would like to answer some of your questions. I do realize that some of my answers have been somewhat vitriolic. For that I apologize. You must understand however that short of ever having had a paranormal experience, it is a very hard thing for me to just "believe" in such things. I will admit though that I know very little, and so I could be wrong in my opinions.

I read your post and I don't know what it is, maybe something in the air, but it was like - SNAP I get it now.... I see the errors of my ways....

Koodoos to Wushboy - he was spot on with that call... If I didn't know better, I'd say he's psychic....oh wait....there's no such thing....

-no such thing as psychics I mean...Wushboy is real...I think,... but then again, I can't prove that either. Man, being a skeptic is hard work. :)

What was I thinking believing in fringe things that are difficult if not impossible to prove?? Phew, and I even built a business around that. That tidbit will be hard to explain on my resume when I have to be called in for an interview for a fine job in a cubicle. Do you think its too much to dream for a spot near the water cooler??? Oh wait... dreaming's not real either....crap.

Can anyone direct me to a Skeptic's Anonymous 12 step program???

I think I am going to need help with this.

Happy April 1st to you all. And I mean that in a sincere non-pagan metaphysically-absent way.

    :)

Thank-you WitchyMel for the April Fools joke. It got me back to looking at some of the posts in this section after a considerable break. It was not becoming fun anymore to read someone posting with an experience or a question and seeing them ravaged by the TCM Club and the GDs.

As a former skeptic and non-believer, who changed his mind AFTER having experiences that I couldn't explain, it got frustrating to read posts by people who have not had any experiences explain to me that I must be drunk, on drugs, delusional or psychotic to have the experiences that I have had.

So again thanks for bringing back some levity to this section. I still hear some neat experiences from people who I talk to face to face, but I haven't had anything happen to me lately. I assure you, if I talk or post about seeing, hearing, smelling or feeling something, it is something I actually experienced.

Witchy Mel, that was hilarious, It was one of the most entertaining posts I have ever seen. I noticed many of the responses were congradulating you on "gaining your senses". You obviously already are in full control of your faculties. I am a skeptical believer. I know, sounds like an oxymoron, but it is not. I believe many unexplained experiences happen every day.I don't believe everything that is said. There are many false reports( deliberate or otherwise). There are also many genuine reports (deliberate or otherwise). I just listen to all and make up my own mind' just as you do. Just because someone denigrates you or your opinion doesn't mean you are wrong. Just means they are close minded.

Thats all I wanted to hear. I think Reiki Chick is about to crack, and we still have a lot of work to do on Tomb Raider. It was all worth it.

But wait. I'm a Christian, so I believe there is another side, even if all my beliefs don't coincide with yours. If I crack down too hard on you, I will have to give up my own beliefs.

The fact that we skeptics try to debunk everything doesn't mean we want you all to give up all beliefs, hopes and dreams. We are trying to find the truth ourselves, and that is part of how we do it.

By the way, only a few times have I recommended someone to seek psychological help, and it was only because it seemed the person honestly needed it, not to be mean to the person.

edit: Oh lol, I realized you were kidding from your tone, but I just realized this was an april fools joke.

DANG, MEL...YOU GOT ME!!! ROFL...That was very convincing!!! lol Wish I had thought of it first. (kicking self)

I tried to do an AF joke on MS and FB...but I knew that the people I know are too smart to fall for it.Although I did fool someone on Yoville last night/morning saying Yoville was closing down.I'm kinda afraid to play an AF joke. One time when I was young I told a friend our family dog had died....and within an hr. or sooner... he got hit by a car and died. Since that happened...I 'm very careful what I say on AF.

So if Yovillle really does close down..... I'm going to double my medication.lol

Anyway.. I hope you have a Happy Easter...and I hope you have a good psychiatrist lol Maybe he /she will give you lortab and you wont' care that you're mentally ill . lol

Edit.. I love that you fooled Missy. ..or did you??Hmmmm Maybe she was doing an AFjoke on YOU!!

I am sorry you are feeling the way you do, but I disagree. Do what you like and believe what you want to believe. The only bad decision is the one you do not make. All that said, I think there is a possibility that ghosts exist. Just because we cannot see them or prove them does not invalidate their existence. The issue is how others react when we stand up for our beliefs. The problem is how we react when others disagree. My belief is that you should choose your battles and not lay it out for everyone to walk all over. Be ready for others to disagree with you and respect their right to believe what they want. Do not try to "convert" them. Just leave it at that. If they argue with you or try to convert you, call them on it. Let them know they are not respecting your right to decide for yourself what you want to believe. If you are not a christian and you try to talk to one about christianity and do not want to be taught about it, then never bring it up. Their common argument is that you simply do not have all of the information and they do. Tell them you learn slow, so write it down and give it too me. Until then, let's not discuss it.

By the way, I am a christian. I refuse to push it on anyone. I think people will come along when they feel it. None-the-less, they have to decide for themselves. They may never. I call that future elbow room. I figure it has got to be pretty crowded up there by now.

  • Well I hope that you so called "Skeptics" are proud of yourselves! You soulless lot have just killed another Unicorn. One of the most loveliest and wondrous creatures to bless the world of spirit and light. This woman has brought love and light to this place of cold hard rationality and you have chose to metaphorically burn her at the steak. The world needs lovely souls like hers to keep it going as much or even more than it needs cold scientific calculation. A balance of this is what makes the world a multilayerd/multidimensional place and that is more important to the life of the human race that mere logic. ~M~
