Basketball Section NBA MVP Poll?

Who's your MVP?

Rank your top five, in order from 1-5. You only need to give a justification for your #1 guy. Each player will get points for how you rank him (i.e. 5 points for a 1st Place vote, 4 points for 2nd Place, 3 points for 3rd, 2 points for 4th, and 1 point for 5th). I'll tally all the votes after 3 days and crown the "official" Y! Basketball NBA MVP for 09-10! Example:

1. Kevin Durant: unbelievable streaks of 20 and 30 point games. Has a young team that was supposed to only battle for the 8th Seed looking like a team that can advance to the 2nd Round and perhaps beyond. Take him off that team, and they don't win 25 games. Best story in the NBA this season.

2. LeBron

3. Dwight Howard

4. Kobe

5. Dirk

So after the preaher's vote, that's 5 points for Durant, 4 points for LeBron, 3 points for Dwight Howard, 2 points for Kobe, and 1 point for Dirk.

Update:

Simon,

You can insert Wade (or anyone else) wherever you like. The guys I gave were just my picks. I'm probably the biggest Wade fan here, but I can't put him in the Top 5 because he hasn't brought it at the highest level all season. If the MVP could be awarded for the last 20 games though, D-Wade is definitely in the conversation.

Werty,

I thought about Melo, and had I asked this question in November, he would be atop my list, but he's fallen off alot over the course of the season.

Update 2:

Skeletor,

I can't tally your vote if you don't allott your 2nd thru 5th Place votes.

Update 3:

“official” Y! Answers Basketball Section MVP results:

1. LeBron James 43 (6 1st Place Votes)

2. Kevin Durant 41 (3)

3. Kobe Bryant 28 (1)

4. Dwight Howard 16 (0)

5. Dirk Nowitski 8 (0)

6. Carmelo Anthony 6 (0)

6. Dwyane Wade 6 (0)

8. Gerald Wallace 1 (0)

9. Deron Williams 1 (0)

*Incomplete ballots were not counted in the final results.

Let's see how the real voting shakes out! BA goes to the person who chose the "official" winner and gave the best justification.

My top 5 are as follows:

    1. Lebron James

    2. Kevin Durant

    3. Kobe Bryant

    4. Dirk Nowitzki

    5. Carmelo Anthony

The Reason I chose Lebron James and Kevin Durant over Kobe Bryant is because the Lakers can win without Kobe Bryant. The whole definition of MVP is exactly that, most valuable to their team. The Lakers have proven that while they are a great team and better team with Kobe, they can win without him and would likely still be a playoff team without him.

The Cavs and Thunder are not like that, if Lebron and KD don't score 25 a night their teams struggle badly and that's a fact. Lebron is having his best statistical season, which is what the NBA always looks at for some reason. But he has also lead his team into being the favorite to win the title. Without Lebron James the Cavs would be an under .500 ballclub.

I chose Dirk 4th because he's very consistent in carrying the Mavericks, he averages 24.7 ppg and he's worked hard on his midrange game, he is now pretty much unstoppable in that area. He's just on a whole other level now as far as being a leader.

I used to always knock Carmelo Anthony for his attitude and his defense, but he's sharpened up on both. He's serious now about winning and he's focused more on stops defensively, getting steals, deflections whatever helps the team. All of this while scoring 28.5 a game. That's why i picked him at #5.

    1. LeBron James - LeBron deserves M.V.P. once again because he continues to make his team better. Being an M.V.P. means that you are making your team better as well as putting up good stats. LeBron has brought the Cavs from the very bottom to the top. Kevin Durant has good stats but his team didn't improve as much as the Cavs. Just imagine how the Cavs would be without LeBron. Enough said.

    2. Kobe Bryant.

    3. Kevin Durant.

    4. Dwight Howard.

    5. Dirk.

My vote is 5 pts for LeBron, 4 for Kobe, 3 for Durant, 2 for Dwight, and 1 for Dirk.

My personal opinion, I would put Wade than Dirk.

Well I disagree with Wade winning MVP. Yes he has been doing Phenominal the last 12 or so games, but LeBron has been doing phenominal ALL season, and that's what an MVP does. MVP: Most Valuable Player, Don't get it confused with BEST PLAYER. This eliminates Kobe from the question, because without Kobe, the Lakers would still be a playoff team, with Pau, Bynum, and Odom. This keeps LeBron and Wade in the Question along with Dwight Howard AND Brandon Roy. LeBron, you remove him from the Cavs, the Cavs win 20 games. You put him on the Kings or something, they become INSTANT contenders. Dwayne Wade, remove him from Heat, and right now with 29 wins, they would be at about 15 right now. Put him on the Thunder, they become contenders. Brandon Roy, Remove him, his team sucks! Put him on the T-Wolves, and they are a playoff Team. Remove Dwight from the Magic and they are 13th in the East, put him on the Wizards and you have a Serious Contender. So as you can see, Kobe is not as valuable as these 4, but the one that would make a team OVER-THE-TOP would be LeBron James. That is my definition of what Most Vaulable Player means.

KD by far. beyond his numbers, the SuperSonics would be the Nets without Kevin Durant. He made a bad team good. I don't care to hear about these guys because if they were good, I'd know about them before they started playing with KD. He is what Lebron is not as far as the guy who makes his team better. For years, the Cavs were nowhere as good as The SuperSonics are now. The Cavs are a lil baby AllStar Team with Shaq, Zydrunas, Mo Williams, Antawn Jamison, and a great bench. Without Lebron, they would still be a playoff team. Without KD the Sonics couldnt beat Duke.

    2. Kobe

    3. Lebron

    4. DWade

    5. Gerald Wallace

  • dong chang is hating on lebron

    3. Durant

    4.Kobe

    5.Deron Williams

I love how so many people are forgetting Melo now think about what the nuggets would be without melo

Dong Chang are you kidding me Cavs have one of the deepest benches in the NBA

    Delonte West,Andy Vandy,Daniel Gibson,Jawad Williams

Big Z are all good bench

Antawn Jamison, Mo Williams and JJ Hickson all put up good numbers i watch the Cavs every time they are on FSN Ohio

Let me say that, 1st of all... Kobe is still the best player on the planet today, but, since he has been playing with a broken finger and a few physical problems (knee/back/elbow), his numbers are Not the best...

So, if we talk about player stats/team records during the season....

The MVP goes for Lebron James without any kind of doubt.

my vote has been for Kobe Bryant every single season....they keep giving it to somebody else though. Kobe Bryant is more talented than any other athlete in the NBA and is therefore worthy of it......
