Apostrophe' is a good choice for a first Frank Zappa album, as it is just after his Mothers of Invention days and before anything what could be considered too crude for a genteel audience.

It's a great album with great music, songs, creative and humorous lyrics that have irony and some great metaphors that can make you think about the status quo.

I think a great one for you start with would be "Sheik Yerboutti" you have the best of Zappa in that album each track is a masterpiece with no weak links at all . As you know Zappa has an enormous catalog and not all of the stuff is exceptional , with "Sheik Yerboutti" there is nothing you will tire of

Just listen to "Rat Tomago" the guitar work shows why he is up there with Hendrix , Clapton Page and the other gods .

Another excellent on is "Live at The Phillmore East" with the Mothers of Invention , real class .

    Enjoy

The WERE MANY THAT Frank Zappa made like 'Hot Rats.-1970= Zappa in New York 1978=

Tinsal Town Rebellion 1981= Them Or Us=1984. BEFORE he went solo he was in a group called Mothers Of Inventions. While he was in that group. They made an Album and if you look on the Vinyl cover of this Album you will see that he wrote most of the songs for this record . It was THE FIRST ONE THAT HE DID WITH THE GROUP called " WERE ONLY IN IT FOR THE MONEY " I have this L.P and to me it has every thing on it that you would start want to start with . The album is rare now , but you might be able to pick it up on a c,d To me he was one of the best playing multi -INSTRUMENTALISTS that i have heard off. He died on 4th december 1993.

I'd have to go with 'Sheik your booty', it has so many of his classics, and of course all the sections where they just seem to sit around and jam out.
