I need information on goats!?

Hi! So I have loved goats since I was seven, I'm in 14, in 4H, and I have done my research. I need basic info, like how goats are transported (I'll need to drive several towns over for the ones I want), etc. Thank you so much!

Update:

I have my eyes on Alpine, Lamancha, and Sannon. :)

Depends on the breed. Are they Boer(meat goats and rather large as adults, can weigh up to 300lbs), the Standard sized dairy breeds are rather tall also if you are talking about adults. The new Miniature Dairy breeds are really nice and easier to handle and give a good amount of milk. These would be the Mini-Alpine, Mini-Togg, Mini-Nubian, and so forth. If you are talking about getting weanlings or kids the dog crates work very well for transporting. May I suggest the owner worms them before they leave their old home for yours. Use Ivermectin Plus Injectable but give it to goats orally. This would be 1cc per 100 pounds. When given orally you don't use a needle, just give it to them in their mouths. Do it again in 2 weeks so the cycle of eggs laid is broken.

May I recommend the Saanen breed. They are usually a very good choice for a first time goat breeder. The Alpines are wonderful goats but can be fighters.

Anyway I've seen goats transported every way imaginable. You can rent a trailer, have a crate in the back of a pickup truck or have a livestock rack for a pickup. You can put them in the back of a van or SUV, just pop them in the back seat of your car. Young kids can be put in a kennel, a rubbermaid type tub or held on your lap. I've hauled adult goats in the back of the car (cover the seat with a tarp and a blanket) or in the back seat of my truck. Or you might be able to have the seller deliver your goats for a fee.

We try to look for and purchase goats within 5 hours of our house. We usually take a large dog crate and put some hay in it for the goat to stay in while we drive back home.
