Can you board an airline if your id is expired?

The TSA requires every passenger 18 yrs. and older to have a VALID government-issued id. An expired id is not valid. However, the TSA may still let you board, but you will have to go through additional screening and questioning. I recommend that you get to the airport early, take you expired id with you, and be polite to the TSA agents while you explain your situation. I also recommend that you renew your id as soon as possible. Not having a valid id can be a huge hassle in today's world. The first link is to the TSA website, the second is to a blog where the writer had the same problem.

It depends on how old you are. If you are under 18 yrs. old, then you don't need any form of id. If you are 18+ and it is a domestic flight, you need some form of US government photo id.
Effective June 21, 2008, adult passengers (18 and over) are required to show a U.S. federal or state-issued photo ID that contains the following: name, date of birth, gender, expiration date and a tamper-resistant feature in order to be allowed to go through the checkpoint and onto their flight.
