Parking is available but expensive in San Francisco. I suggest starting by making a list of the things you want to see/do. Then, using something like Google Maps, identify where those places are. If you will be staying in San Francisco, and if you will be concentrating on the main tourist attractions, you can probably get by with public transportation.
