Can you recommend a good nail clipper for my dog?
Clipped Pixie's nails today and I guess I need a new clipper because her nails are super rough and she scratched the crap out of me while we were playing. Normally, I would just go and buy another pair of whatever I have, but I have no clue where I got these, and they were originally purchased for our cats, so they're super old. Pixie has very thin nails, much like a cats. So, I don't need any heavy duty type ones.
I haven't even looked at nail clippers for years, so I don't know if there are even any brands, but if you have any that you like, by all means, please suggest them. Thanks!!!!!

I would not use a dremel tool on this dog, as you have said she is quite small, with nails more like a cat. That would make me think you would probably be better off with either a set of cat nail clippers like this:

or the next size up for dogs, which are contructed the same:

Once you have trimmed the nails, you could drag a foamcore emery board underneath each nail to take off any of the rough edges.
You can get the nail clippers at Petco, and the emery board at any CVS or Walgreen's.

Safari makes decent nail clippers, in both side cutter and guillotine styles. However, the safest way to trim nails is with a drum sander bit (60-80 grit) mounted into a variable speed Dremmel ... and on any given day I can be found grinding the nails of various breeds from Chihuahua to Great Dane. No clippers. They hurt the dogs claws. They have sensitive tissue and need a filer. I can tell you that there is a filer called Ped i cure. They are only 20.00. Make sure you read the directions. They helped my dog's nails well.

i have always used MIKKI grooming stuff with my girls- including the nail clippers, but to stop them from being scratchy i always use the nail file after to smooth off the edges0 just in case!
hope this helps!
