Nervous about the Mirena coil?
I had the coil fitted in june 09. Had the usual after effects I.E Varied bleeding, Cramps on n off for about 2 months. I then in dec 09 had some problems with server pains in my lower abdomen and went to the docs. Had a infection in my womb, Not the STI/STD type. The doc at the hospital recommended that i get the coil taken out as this could be causing the problem. It had slightly moved and therefore this could of been the reason i had the infection. I went to my local GP and they were very iffy about taking out the coil ( as it cost to much money to the NHS). I did have a course of anit-botics to sort out the infection which is gone now but the pain remains.
Do i have the right to demand it being taken out? Can they refuse to take it out? As i could be just going back onto the pill instead. Cheers Jess from South Wales, Uk.

Of course you can insist on having it taken out if you feel it is giving you pain, its your body.
Its sensible to try and sort out your problems without removing it this is why they gave you the antibiotics in the hope if curing the problem but the cost is not the issue really if you are in pain then they must take the device out.
