Have the precursors been set for a worldwide Socialist revolution?

I mean let's be honest. Europe is mostly socialist, Russia and China are socialist, South Africa and many African nations are socialist, Iran is a socialist dictatorship, South America is comprised of mostly radically socialist govts, and the US has its most left leaning govt in its history. Is it any wonder we are seeing a global economic crisis - this is what true socialists want, a complete collapse of the economic system of capitalism.

Am I being an alarmist or is there any merit to my observations. Please discuss civilly.

Update:

@DITC - Obama is a socialist you can't deny that. However, he is not governing from where he lies on the political spectrum, although he is governing from centre-left for the most part. I am a conservative no question but I am liberal leaning on a few issues (anti capital punishment, pro gun control, pro universal health care). What I have seen is a polarization of the world, even before the Becks, Hannity's etc were talking about it. I refer back to the rigged Ukraine election of 2004 and the Orange Revolution as opening my eyes to that phenomenon. Now we see extremism on both sides of the spectrum, wait until you see the election results in Britain and Netherlands. The far right parties BNP and Party of Freedom under Geert Wilders will be strong.

Update 2:

@Darqwon. I didn't say the sky is falling, I'm asking if we are on the wrong path. I know that the US will never become a socialist country but it is becoming a weaker country economically. There are many theories as to the causes of why that is but I'll digress. You say things in your area are improving, that's great. But that's only local. Unemployment is still too high, debt levels are out of control and the banking & insurance industries are still operating very conservatively.

No offense Kevin D but there's little to no merit to what your saying, those are all wing-nut / far right talking points, that come from the same people who think the government is coming to their house in black helicopters to take their guns away. People get this kind of crap from Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh and they show little to no objectivity at all, they're purely right wing (extreme far right in Glenn Beck's case) opinion shows. They care about ratings not reality, and controversy = ratings.

As much as the right wing throws around the word “socialist”, you can’t take them seriously anymore because they're mentality today is, “If you disagree with me about anything at all (politically) you’re a socialist”. The right only believes in democracy when they get their way, if they loose it's never "legitimate" somehow.

You’re clearly conservative so it's perfectly fine to disagree with Obama on policy but come on, let's stay in reality here, you're too smart to believe in conspiracy theories Kevin D. All this extreme talk from the far right needs to stop.

    Edit:

You want the discussion to be “civil” but accusing (or implying) the president of the United States of being a socialist is not a civil or reasonable position to take.

Yo . . . don't look for answers in the wrong places . . . since the clash of Capitalism and Communism starting in the 1900s, both systems have tried to even out the differences in order to maintain, in either system, a ruling elite or hierarchy.

All systems that operate from a top down mentality have to enlist the support of "the masses".

In the modern economy there must be a middle class; a class crucial to the cultural and economic opposition to historical monarchies (or centralized power).

Putting aside "political systems", we should consider what constitutes a "civil society". I am in favor of universal health care, but I oppose US Imperialism. In one case I can go with Obama's "Socialist" policies, in the other I go against his "Capitalist" impulses.

  • Daniel M has already addressed the primary point I would have raised, but I'll add this:

While you say "The sky is falling."

I see economic recovery, locally and nationally. It is slow progress, but progress nonetheless.

Whether or not I wholeheartedly support the approach, it is hard to argue with results.

Especially at a time when tangible results were so desperately needed.

The American economy commenced its most recent collapse under the right-wing government of George W. Bush. The Great Depression started after three Republican Presidents.
