Any tips for making a fauxhawk with thick, longer hair?
My hair's probably 5 inches at it's longest point and pretty thick. I've never had much luck spiking it. I've heard using too much product can weigh it down, but using too little doesn't work either, so how much is enough? I have the CVS brand of Got2b Glued hair glue and maximum hold hairspray, and I can't use soap because I use semi-permanent dye and don't want to lose the color. Help!

Alright, what you'll need is some good fiber gum hair putty, some heavy duty gel, and I recommend getting a "Tigi" bedhead stick. The stuff I use for my hair is Garnier Fructis, and herbal esscences, but I like garnier best. What you need to do is get some gel in your hair, but not to much, just enough to make your hair a little wet and spikey. You'll tell when you have to much because you won't be able to control your hair. Next, get some of that putty and put an even amount through your hair. If you put too much in, it'll fall though. You just want enough that it'll stay sticking up by itself. And remember, you want a sort of "messy" look. If it looks perfect, it's gonna look weird and it'll frustrate you. So remember to not try to hard when spiking your hair up. The more you mess with it, the harder it gets to control. Especially with hair as long as yours. So once you've got your hair all spiked up with product, just focus it into the hawk you want. Spray it down with some good hairspray, and blow dry it. Then, later on, if your hair starts to fall, pull out your wax stick, and spike up your hair again. It'll stay up forever. Hope I helped. Remember, messy is the key. A "perfect" uniform hair around the hawk it is gonna look a little strange.
