My dog keeps rubbing his butt on the pavement?

I've got a pure bred Shih Tzu

He's 3 years old

He has a hard time "expressing" himself and he keeps rubbing his butt on the ground. Is there something wrong with him? We took him to the vet and they did an anal sac expression on him but he's still rubbing his butt on the ground.

He may need to go back for another visit, or he might have something hanging on back there, He might have worms, or he maybe just likes the way it feels.

Greeny; You're feeding the little shitz out of a foil package or a tin. Right?

Ok. Get it some raw chicken wings and / or legs. If ye can ask ye butcher for some stripped chicken carcasses, half of one of those would be a days feed for that size of Dog. Guy tries to charge ye a cent, he's taking the piss! He'll be paying to land fill them.

What he'll be getting there is meat and bone ~ obviously. That'll result in a nice, compacted stools. Just like nature intended. Dog'll broaden his own horizons as he passes said stools. This action will empty his anal glands. Look on it as the natural way of cleaning his teeth. At the other end. Only, this'll also clean his Actual teeth too ~ chewing on those bones.

Vet'll hate ye for adopting such a diet. It'll mean ye Dog isn't constantly being brought back to him for brown teeth and a blocked bum. It quite possibly won't even die of a long and protractedly expensive 'fight' with Cancer.

Of course, the Dog could have worms. Just Google for a non vet, on line supplier of Drontal, or what ever takes ye fancy. No prescription. Fraction of the price. Read the label.

Chuck that Dog a lamb rib bone now and then too. Give it something to work on and amuse itself with.

I won't insult ye intelligence by pointing out that All such flesh, fat and bone needs be fed completely raw. Frozen solid is fine. Just Never cooked <-- Just said that for some of the others who may read this and not understand ;-)

Still as in same day? The anal sacs don't get naturally expressed when the dog's wastes aren't firm enough. My dog does the same thing, and every year she's perfectly healthy minus full anal sacs. I'd wager the diet your dog is on is leading to softer stools and not expressing the anal sacs enough.

Watch him carefully. My dog did that. If he has diarrhea go to the vet and ask him to test for ALL types of worms. My dog was doing that and had diarrhea. We took her to the vet he said she had worms and gave us medicine. It went away and came back. We got more medicine, same thing. We went to another vet. Different medicine, same results. He tried a third medicine, same. We finally took her to a third vet who did a different test and found her worms. She had a type that the others had not recognized with their test. He gave us medicine for that type. It was gone and never came back. I don't know if that is what you have, but it is worth a look. Mostly watch in case he has diarrhea.

He may have worms. You need to deworm dogs regularly. Ask your vet.
