Lymph nodes get sore because they get swollen. They get swollen when an infection enters your body. Your lymph nodes act as command centers for fighting off disease in your body. If the lymph system were to be damaged, your body would have a harder time fighting off diseases.
The lymph nodes take infected fluid into them, where your t-cells and b-cells are exposed to the infection. There the body adapts to fight the infection and the lymph node starts mass producing these newly modified t and b-cells to fight off the infection in other parts of your body.
