For the US highways, everything from income tax to gasoline tax to license fees for truckers, etc., pays for the highway repair. And many people who aren't rich pay some income taxes. Families with over $50,000 in income usually begin paying taxes and the number increases as income increases. Families at either end of the spectrum, the lowest and the highest income groups, often pay little to nothing, and some at the bottom get money back. But even those who don't pay any income tax at all pay some of the bills through drivers' license fees, license plate fees, etc.

  • Not true. We pay taxes on every gallon of gas.

Since 1980, median real household income has risen less than 15 percent. The only period of strong middle-class income growth during this time came in the mid- and late 1990s, which by coincidence was also the one time when taxes on the affluent were rising.

For most of the last three decades, tax rates for the wealthy have been falling, while their pretax pay has been rising rapidly. Real incomes at the 99.99th percentile have jumped more than 300 percent since 1980. At the 99th percentile — about $300,000 today — real pay has roughly doubled.

Haha, well, if the poor didn't have to pay into taxes, maybe we wouldn't be so poor! It would be so nice if it worked that way! But, yes, EVERYONE pays taxes! A certain percentage comes out of your paychecks....if I remember correctly I think its around 33% of your paycheck goes to taxes (but it differs from person to person, depending on their exemptions like having kids....it doesnt matter if your rich or poor). I think its up to the states and counties to decide to tax gas. I know Alachua County in Florida has a gas tax, but I dont think we have a gas tax in the county I live in in Florida. If we do, its just not as much as Alachua County lol. Other than that, were taxed for just about everything.

I'm honestly not sure if the US highways are paid for by Federal taxes or State taxes...I'm assuming Federal, but I'm not sure.

    1. all Americans with an income pay income tax + local taxes which are also used to maintain roads.

    2. income over approx. 365,000 usd pays for 75% of the government expenses

    3. there are both State and state taxes on gas and all other utilities.

    4. the only thing in the US that is tax free is food (because it is protected from inflation with gov. subsidies.)

We all pay for it in various and sundry taxes, most common are the excise and sales taxes that each of us pay every day.
