What's so great about Windows 7?

I'm all ready to buy a new laptop soon, but then I use my friend's new lappy with Windows 7 and I don't want a new one anymore. It runs like a Mac. Who runs a Mac on purpose? Too many unnecessary steps. And pictures over words, do you really need a task bar filled with little pictures so you can see all of your crap? Now I want a new laptop but stick with Windows XP. I don't get people. How is Windows 7 supposed to be simple and great?

Update:

Hey now, I still have an old desktop that has Windows 95 on it since I don't feel like trasfering my files. I only use it for games but it runs a whole lot better than Windows 7. I guess I'm just used to having access to everything I can possibly hack into on a computer and I've just got to learn to work with this new POS

Beats the hell out of me. The Windows 7 GUI is atrocious. It's a completely tasteless, slapstick, mickey-mouse approximation of the Mac OS interface which Microsoft have dumbed down to the nth degree. All useful features have been literally massacred, instead we get lots of shiny crap that's meant to be appealing to the eye but in reality only manages to impress low-grade 12 year olds.

Until someone comes up with a way to get the Windows XP version of Explorer installed on Windows 7, I will never use it - and that's a fact.

Sticking with XP is just plain stupid. It's almost 10 years old. It was released at the same time as OS X 10.0. You don't see anyone claiming that Snow Leopard sucks and everyone should use Cheetah. XP lacks stability as well as security and usability features. The interface is clunky and primitive. It doesn't recognize or support a lot of modern hardware, and MS is discontinuing support for it.

Why not downgrade to Windows 3.1? It makes as much sense.

If you absolutely had to, you COULD just change the appearance of Windows 7 to classic mode, which Windows XP was based on anyway. Here's the skinny though, Microsoft is dumping Windows XP whether you like it or not, so it's time to buck up and move on. They have already announced that Windows XP will not run IE9.

It's not consumers that are claiming Windows 7 is great.

Works fine for me on my new laptop, so I'll keep it. I already have an XP laptop if I need to go back.

I am not looking forward to being stuck with Windows 7 when Microsoft stops supporting XP.
