Why are truckers unfairly targeted by state police?

To hear the slogan to serve and protect makes me laugh. To serve you tickets & protect their jobs is more what it is. I think the roads should be kept safe but, a large portion of the reasons why big trucks get into accidents is because of the stupid actions of people driving 4 wheelers. Examples of such include: tailgating, text messaging, speeding,& erratic lane changes. It is against the law to tailgate but, that law is hardly ever enforced upon them. The wall of 4 wheelers blocking a semi from making a lane change when they need to,forcing them into stranded motorist all because everybody has to pass a big truck. They slam on their brakes in front of us,stop on exit ramps when it says to yield & all the sudden pull out in front of us(Pennsylvania). The split speed limit has done nothing except add more danger, along with companies that regulate their trucks to 60mph.Yet the idiocy of new laws being made are by people who have never stepped foot in a truck or, know actually what it is that we put up with. Many people say to support our troops but, hardly no one gives respect to the driver that delivers everything anyone has ever bought. We are the ones that keep this country going but,yet constantly get p____d on! Our wages are going down, owner operators going out of business, and fines are only getting more expensive. Now here comes even more rules and regulations that each individual state will be different on. When a big truck gets pulled over for doing 3-4 mph over the speed limit you can bet a 4 wheeler is passing the cop doing 80mph(Ohio) & nothing is done. Safety?or a money racket in the name of safety? What do you think? Do we really get our moneys worth out of the police? Or are they pulling over the easiest targets they can get?

The state police have little to do with it. State agencies receive grants from the federal government to train officers in the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP).

Although the majority of truckers I've met in my career are professional and safe drivers, there are a few that like to cut corners. Put these people in charge of 40 tons of cargo, and the results can be disastrous. I've even had truckers come in to the weigh station and personally request an inspection because their owners refuse to fix the truck. The written warning is like Christmas morning for these drivers, as it forces the owner to take action.

4 wheelers will risk anything to save that 1\2 second & get around a truck; I have never saw a single one get pulled, when this behavior was clearly witnessed by the cops.

They pull the rigs over because they are easy targets & they hate the fact that we radio their positions on the highways.

Speeding may be the probable cause for the stop but maybe they are working special operations that particular day and are checking for drug or people trafficking. I understand there are many drivers out there that do not respect 18-wheelers. I personally do. They are much bigger than me!

ought to basketball communities be racially balanced additionally? Basketball communities do no longer extremely characterize the share of whites in our society. All kidding aside, police use in all risk reason to make arrests. If somebody does against the regulation, they get arrested if the police have in all risk reason to make an arrest.

Source(s): I am a retired police officer. I retired as a sergeant, after 29 years, from a very large department, about 12,000 officers. I was a patrol officer for 4 years in a very diverse area. I was a tactical officer in the high rise project areas of my city. We called it vertical patrol in that we walked the the stairways of the high rises most of the time. I did that for 5 years and was promoted by test to detective. I worked violent crime (homicide, sex, officer involved shootings, robbery, kidnapping, serious non property incidents) for 11 years until I was promoted to sergeant. I worked as a street supervisor, a bicycle patrol supervisor and a desk sergeant/watch commander. During my time as a tactical officer and a detective I was a unit representative for the police union. I have a B.A in English and an M.S. in Law Enforcement Administration
