This is most likely a firewall issue. DDNS is maintaining the entry using a public IP address; your router/firewall maps that public IP to your web server's private IP (usually 192.168.*.* or 10.*.*.*) via NAT and/or port forwarding. Many routers/firewalls will not permit traffic from internal hosts to public IPs it's translating like that (e.g., Cisco's rule that traffic cannot enter and exit on the same interface.)

To remedy this some firewalls (like those made by Cisco) can be configured to translate DNS requests for NAT-mapped IPs. Another remedy is to run an internal DNS server, that answers queries for your domain[s] and returns internal IPs, and looks-up the rest of the queries from the DNS root.
