Would my girlfriends mom be upset if I didn't talk to her before proposing?
I am planning to ask my girlfriend to marry me soon. Her dad passed away 15 years ago, so I was wondering if I should talk to her mom first and ask for her blessing. She has only met me a few times, but I know she likes me. If I didn't talk to her first, would she be upset?

I think it's a really good idea that you do ask her blessing. Mom served as the head of the house for many years. Show her the honor and respect and just ask her blessing. It will only take a few minutes and if you can't deal with that pressure, you're going to have a hard time dropping to your knee and popping the question to your gf. You only do it once. Make sure you do it right. Error on the side of making sure.

It's really an outdated custom in the US but I think her mother might find it very charming. So, if you are comfortable with the idea of doing, it certainly would not be a bad thing, but I really doubt if it would even occur to her to expect it.
This could be a totally didn't situation if mother's culture is not American.

I think it's very admirable to ask her mom for her blessing. But I doubt she would be upset, especially if you're good to her daughter and she likes you.

No. You don't need to ask the mom for permission. Just ask your girlfriend.

if her mom mentions it to her first before you do, then your girlfriend will not get the good feeling of a marriage proposal from you.

If you are scared that she will be upset then get a hold of her and ask her for permission.

It is a good thing to to do. Being on the good side of inlaws is a great thing and proper as well. Go for it.

Traditionally you are to ask for her hand, but not many follow along that tradition. My husband didn't and my parents were happy for us.
