How do I get my children's book published?
I wrote a children's book for apporx reading age grade 2/3. In the past year I've sent inquiry letters to half a dozen publishers. I received back either a form letter saying they weren't interested, or no response at all. No one so far has even looked at the manuscript! Several friends and children have read and liked it. I'm working on a second book, but I feel like it's impossible to even get considered! Does anyone have any suggestions?
I tried agents first, same problem, couldn't find a reputable agent willing to even look at it! Then one suggested going directly to publishers, so I tried that.
I did get a couple books on publishers/agents, writers markets. That's where I've been getting the names and addresses from. But I want a publisher or agent who is established and has a good reputation. There's a lot of scammers out there...
Yep, I also did that - finding info from published books. Those agents aren't considering any new clients :(
It's amazing that anyone gets a first book published!

Don't bother with an agent until you've got a few books published.
In the mean time...
There are three common types of book publishers: two of them have respectable reputations; one of them is notorious for publishing low-quality results. To best understand your three options, I recommend reading this online article:

This article focuses on the Canadian marketplace, but the information could be easily applied to the American marketplace as well. We're both pretty much the same. Reading the above article will help you to pick the best publisher for you.

Have you looked for an agent? It's the agent's job to help connect new authors with publishing houses. Most publishers won't even consider a book if the author isn't represented by an agent. Look through the Writers Market 2010, you can get it either from Amazon.com or at the library, or check this website: http://www.agentquery.com/
Hope that helps and that you get it published! Good luck!

There are a lot of scammers out there - but here's a suggestion that might help you. Find a book similar to yours. Then read the acknowledgements which the author has listed - they're usually in the first page, or on the last page. They'll talk about their wonderful editors and their wonderful agents - and name both the editors and the agents. You can google up these contacts and direct your pitch to them.
good luck.

Consider self publishing an e-book. I noticed on Amazon that there is a link for that. I haven't researched it, but I think it might be a way to get started to get exposure for your work without the hassle of publishers, agents, and costs of publishing books.
Good luck.
