The Apple warranty covers manufacturer's defects for one year unless you buy a two year plan from Apple. The warranty starts the day you register it, which is when you connect it to iTunes for the first time. The serial number then is registered with Apple. If you want any coverage beyond manufacturer's defects, you have to buy an extended service plan from the reseller with or without accidental damage coverage, in this case Walmart. Each reseller has their own policy and pricing so you'll want to get the details from Walmart. Contrary to another answer here, in the event of a covered problem, it won't necessarily be replaced. Some coverages replace them, some repair them. In the event of a replacement, the original one is returned to Apple, who then repairs it and it becomes a refurb. The replacements iPods are those refurbs. So a replacement will almost never be a new iPod and it will always be the same model, generation and capacity. If given the choice between a repair and a replacement, the advantage to a refurbished replacement is that an Apple refurb comes with a new battery, new outer shell (no scratches -- yea!), new earbuds, new USB cable and a new box.

Yes it does....but If I was you, I would just go get it at the store yourself, much faster and secure. And they give you a receipt with your warranty information.....
