What is the percentage of the unemployed that are added permanently to welfare at the end of every year?

This percentage would be those that have not just given up for a time looking for work, but have accepted that they can never find work again?

Where do you get the idea people that have stopped looking for work can get on welfare? A person has to qualify for it. Just to quit looking for a job, if able-bodied, does not qualify for welfare.

Yeah that always baffled me that people think you can get welfare just because you don't work.

I hurt my back (ruptured several disks) but the pain was intermittent. Not bad enough to collect workmans comp but enough to keep me from maintaining a physical job anymore. I didn't even bother applying for assistance. I got my Real Estate license since the market was hot (2000) and I live in a very desirable area I concentrated on. About 2005 I noticed a dramatic difference in the market and suddenly wasn't making enough to pay my bills. So I started a small business where if I had to take the day off I could without getting fired.

So you see, not everyone is looking for a way out of work, they are looking for a job that is a little flexible and one they can keep if they have a physical problem. And don't talk to me about manpower, you can;t make enough working for them. besides I think if you were scheduled to work and didn't show up they probably wouldn't use you again. It gets tougher as you get older, you'll find out.

Great Question, but no one knows, nor would they be honest with us, if they knew.

    Americans need JOBS !

That's what Obama and the Senate needs to be focusing on. I was very upset that the Senators took their spring vacations with out extending the unemployment benefits for thousands of people. Now, that the benefits have run out and it wasn't a priority for them. They don't get the check now.

How will these people feed their kids, put gas in their vehicles, keep a roof over their heads. We have two wars going on, that neither of them we can win. It is draining the resources of our country's people. The troops are tire and home sick. They don't want to be there. The countries we are in, don't want us to be there. We build them a new school or fire dept. and two wks later it has been blown up. They want us out.

I have traveled the world and among these people. They don't want our ways, they have their own and it is deeply instilled in them. So they won't change. I feel a lot of civil unrest in our population at this time. And feel over the summer months. These people with no jobs, a bunch of empty promises, foreclosures on their homes. There vehicles repossessed.

A lot of people have given up, when you send out 600 resumes and don't get a response for a one of them. Yes, I'd say these people have given up or about too. These are indeed sad times.
