Once a garment containing spandex has been overheated in the wash, is there any way to restore it?

A little accident with my washing machine means that trousers and jacket (of which I was particularly fond) got a dose of hotter water than intended. Now they're somewhat crinkled and ironing seems extremely difficult. Have I wrecked them forever, or is there a way to get them back to something resembling their former state? They are 63% nylon, 33% rayon and 4% spandex (but look like something much more 'natural'!!).

Update:

Does anyone understand that bit that says "This question was originally asked...". It claims I'm in the US. I'm not - I'm in the UK.

Update 2:

I'm sad I can't split the BA among you all - thank you for trying to help me, it's really appreciated.

I've never had any success trying to fix this problem, darling...and I've tried and tried. I think the fibers are permanently damaged, and no matter how much you try to iron them, steam them, flatten them, or otherwise stretch them out, the fabric will always be crinkled. The only thing I could suggest (that I haven't tried, myself) is to bring them to the dry cleaners and ask whether they know how to deal with this problem. Maybe they have some trade-secret way of fixing this.

Sorry, darling - I feel your pain...my very favorite cardigan ever died this way. Of course, this rarely happens to the crappy clothes we'd throw away in a minute if we could only find a reason...oh no...it's always favorites.

YES you do have a chance, this is what I did and it worked for me. Rewash in COLD water NO dryer unless you have fluff with low heat if so put on fluff with low heat for about 6 min ( helps get the wrinkles out - - -then line dry - - -do NOT let lay in the dryer even for 1 min. - - -but and this is the most important of all, every 30 min go and stretch the garments out to how they use to be and then over stretch a bit, re hang to dry and you need to do this until nearly dry, it did the job for me and mine are now wearable again good luck hope it works for you too.

My costly Sir i desire you have a nostril for the finer issues in existence... in the event that they have a reasonable yellow colouring specifically aspects i could say this may be a solid sign of sporadic use and you will be able to could desire to cleanse your self till now dealing with the suggested garment. you could nevertheless in no way be too careful in germ conflict,so please take heed of my words of awareness. you may desire to return the compliment with a pair of your guy or woman rustic clothing which might are available accessible for her while desirous to heat her ears interior the arriving months.

I don't have experience with this. Only idea coming to mind is a steamer. I have this small tool that puts out steam to take wrinkles out of clothes. Of course if heat was the problem, more heat can't be good.

Maybe hang in bath while showering to get a steaming going. A dry cleaner may have ideas....

The same thing happened with my Spiderman suit and gimp mask :S

I don't think there actually is a way to make it as nice as it was before. You could try washing it in the sink, and then hanging it and giving it a stretch now and again, but that never works for me to be honest. I have actually contemplated losing weight in order to fit into a much loved top again, it's heartbreaking. Try and get identicals online to replace them!

Unfortunately there is no way to restore them back to how they were because the fibres have melted in the wash, and wont revert back.I have done a similar thing myself so I speak from experience.
