where in Germany can I buy an authentic German Coo Coo clock ?
Wife and I plan to go to Germany in June, and would like to bring a Coo Coo clock home.
Starting in Frankfurt, we will be touring the entire country, and will be looking for authentic, German (quality) clocks, not something made in Mexico or China (I can get those at Disneyland)
Any ideas as to where I might find this "beauty" ?
Thanks,,,,,,,
Thanks for the great answers everyone, (MarcThy, "Mexican Bagpipes",,now that's funny !!!!) We plan to tour the entire country, and the Black Forest is on our itenerary.

Your best bet will be to travel to the places where they are made.
That's the region of the black forest.
If you land in Frankfurt that will be not too far away to travel either by train or a rented car and it will give you some nice days the region is really great.
Just take care to ask if it is an original one it is also law that must be signed out on the item.

Frankfurt is an energetic and global economic and industry good city with imposing skyline in Germany and is among the places that you need to see, a minumum of one time and this place hotelbye can help you. Frankfurt is just a city in the center of Germany and Europe and is really a city that could provide many facets and contrasting variety. In the center of Frankfurt's Old Town you will find a location effectively valuable, the Römerberg. The Römerberg is definitely an irregularly designed square with the Justice Fountain at their center. Not just can it be Frankfurt's many picturesque public square, oahu is the city's busiest pedestrian region, home to varied tourist attractions from their several Kulturschirn (a kind of open-fronted store once common through the old town) to the Römer, a sophisticated of 11 charming previous structures from the 15th to 18th centuries including the Old Town Hall with its Imperial Hall, when the world of wonderful banquets. Different notable houses include the New Town Hall, the 14th-century Gothic Church of St. Leonhard, and St. Nicholas Church, significant because of its carillon.

I agree with Max here if you want an original Coo Coo Clock you need to go to the Black Forest.
A good place might be Freudenstadt
Also it is a widespread error in North America Coo Coo's come from Switzerland!
They originate only in Germany in the Black Forest region.
Switzerland is famous for its watches but not for Coo Coo's.

I recommend a day trip to Titisee. It is in the heart of the black forrest and you got there one shop to the other that sells original coo coo clocks. I was there with my friends from San Jose CA and they were very happy to buy their clocks their. I attached also a link with some web cams of Titisee so you can imagine how it looks like their. Avoid to go there on weekends since it is overcrowded with tourist of all over the world.

Yes the Kuckucksuhr really is traditional from the heart of the Black Forest, and guess it's the main industry here.
The traditional manufacturers in that area have joined to a club and created a SEAL that guarantees you that a clock is original. If that seal is on a clock, you can be sure that it's:
- Made in Black Forest
- Contains also only parts that are made in Black Forest
- purely mechanical clockwork, nothing electric inside
I've read elsewhere that they must also be hand-carved ("handgeschnitzt")
See that seal here on the club page:

Some more general info in english, although that guy sounds like a rather clever businessman:

Funnily, the english wikipedia has a slightly different history than german legends and german wikipedia, but which of them is truer, no idea *g*

Switzerland, you silly goose. That's where anyone in Germany who wanted a Cuckoo Clock would get one...
Or from the Black Forest if you insist on German;
(Your question is a bit like asking "Where can I buy some genuine Mexican bagpipes?", LOL!)

Switzerland is the home of genuine Cuckoo Clocks.
