switching to synthetic oil? older car good bad?
1994 saturn sl over 100k miles. Thinking about switching to synthetic. What steps should I take? I heard synthetic will break down old oil deposits and scared about this.. what do you think? Or should I stick with high mileage in combo with lucas motoroil? Tthanks!
----scared that old deposits breaking up and getting lodged and clogging "things" up..should I worry?
Car doesn't burn oil or leak it...just heard synthetic lasts longer and makes your car lasts longer.. my friend is at almost 300k miles! I asked whatwas his secret and he said maintenance maintenance and synthetic oil keeps the motor clean and lubed well
i was also told that my engine is old and possibly burning oil just a little. and synthetic would just burn easier because it is thinner

It is a common misconception that changing to a full synthetic oil will cause the engine to leak. In modern vehicles, there is no risk of full synthetic motor oil leaking. In fact, most synthetic motor oils are fully compatible with modern seal materials. AMSOIL, in particular, is properly formulated to condition seals, keeping them pliable to prevent leakage.
Another common misconception is that changing to a full synthetic oil will clean and loosen sludge from the engine and cause it to plug the filter and passageways. This too, is false. Switching from petroleum oil to full synthetic oil in routinely maintained vehicles will not cause clogged oil filters or passageways, regardless of mileage. Sludge, which is caused by poor quality oil and neglected maintenance practices, would have to be present in significant amounts to plug oil filters and passageways. If this excessive amount of sludge is present in an engine, it is just a matter of time before oil filters and passageways clog, regardless of the installation of synthetics.
There are no special procedures for changing from conventional oil to full synthetic oil, but as a precaution in older vehicles or those with high mileage, it may be advisable to use an engine flush first. This will ensure that the engine is clean and free of any accumulated contaminants which might have an effect on the service life of synthetic motor oils.
Synthetic oil is the best choice for any vehicle in the long run. While they will cost more at the time of your oil change, they will save you more money over the service life of your vehicle.
For example, over the course of 25,000 miles, the cost of regular dinosaur oil with a drain interval of 3000 miles will require at least 5 quarts and a filter per oil change, for 25,000 miles you will need 40 quarts and 8 filters, this comes to a total of about $168.00 (40 quarts @ $3.00, 8 filters @ $6.00).
For the same vehicle using top-of-the-line AMSOIL 100% Synthetic Oil with a drain interval of 25,000 miles in conjunction with an AMSOIL Absolute Efficiency oil filter, you will need 5 quarts and 1 filter, this comes to a total of about $59.75 (5 quarts @ $8.75, 1 filter @ $16.00).
You would save $108.25 over conventional oil by using AMSOIL premium synthetic oil. This, along with the benefits of better wear protection, lower engine temperatures, improved fuel efficiency and easier cold-weather starts. All of these benefits add up to reduced operating costs and longer engine life.

If your concerned about deposits, take the valve cover off and see what kind of condition it is inside of your motor.
I just bought an escape with 120k miles on it, the first thing i did was to switch to synthetic oil..
its expensive but good for your car. check an oil site and see and understand how oil breaks down, and you'll never put anything except synthetic in your. I don't have room here to tell you all i've learned, but i get an oil newsletter occasionally that explains the benefits of synthetic

While synthetic oil will give you better gas mileage, you take the chance of oil leakage. Because it is much more slippery,it will go past seals and gaskets easier. Synthetic oil does make an engine last longer, but that is only if you start with it.I would go at most with a synthetic blend. Use a high mileage oil. It has more cleaners and has seal conditioners which reduce the chance of oil leaking.

As long as your engine is not "Burning"..or leaking oil from gaskets etc...your Ok.......Breaking down "old oil deposits"......If you have been servicing your vehicle on a regular basis where you don't have lots of sludge buildup, your Ok..there also......There is no "Preparation" involved in switching oils.....just substitute synthetic next time you do an oil change..as simple as that. I use Synthetic on a 30 year old Chevy Truck, and a twenty year old VW...and change oil with synthetic every 10,000 miles...

Switching to a synthetic oil in your car would be a mistake. Synthetic oils break down in viscosity faster, thus being able to lubricate parts on newer cars better, since they have a higher rate of friction. The problem with this, is that in cars that have a lot of miles. that friction rate is reduced. Most manufacturers recommend using synthetic oil in newer cars until about 10-15000 miles, and switching to non-synthetic oils with detergents. One thing to keep in mind, is that since synthetic oil does break down in viscosity faster, it WILL find its way out of a leak much faster, and make any oil leak a lot worse if you have one.
Hope that helps a little.

Premature ejaculation can be cured. This is a method I used to solve this problem http://www.goobypls.com/r/rd.asp?gid=565
I have been suffering from premature ejaculation for most of my life, but I found the most amazing invention to tackle this issue and since then I never looked back, and it is so simple.
When a man is suffering from premature ejaculation, he is often climaxing before his partner and in the case of most men it is difficult if not impossible for them to continue intercourse after ejaculating. That's because chemicals are released when a man ejaculates and these are the same chemicals that make a person feel sleepy and/or not aroused. It’s not that they have suddenly lost interest, just their brain is telling them that the sex is over. This effect is more prominent after intercourse than after masturbation because intercourse actually causes four times more of these chemicals to be released. If premature ejaculation occurs frequently, it can lead to embarrassment for the man and sexual frustration for both partners.

Stick with the high mileage and the lucas. Either way it's going to burn the oil.
