Honestly, hair straighteners do NOT work on my hair at all. I don't know why, my hair is not even that thick. But I've tried the con air ones and one other that friend gave me promising that I would love it. But I didn't. They all feel the same to me, they all pull my hair out (the plastic parts around the metal plate pulls it out when I clamp it over my hair). Sooo...
I have always used an actual iron. And it works fabulously.
I put it on a low setting, grab a towel, lay the towel on the floor, brush my hair out straight, flip my head over so that the underside of my hair is on the towel, I brush my hair out over the towel (spread out) and then I use the iron like I would on clothes, but just go over my hair one way of course. Then I flip over and do the same thing while I lay down on my back. Afterward, I stand up and brush it out. Then I use the towel again and the iron and iron out the front strands. It works great!!!!
And no damage yet and I've been doing it since I was like 12 (12 years long, then).
It is so much easier and faster, and it doesn't yank out my strands. <3<3

My favorite one is InStyler. I bought it about a month ago and like it. I get excellent results. To those who have been having problems - even my thick, curly hair gets soft, straight and shiny if I take my time and only do very small sections at a time. I had picked it up with th ehelp of a online shopping assistance IMshopping.

My fave: Hot tools nano ceramic! It is so awesome and is chi quality in my opinion :)
Conair i also tried and felt like it damaged my hair a lot. Will NOT try again.
Those are the only brands i have actually bought but i had a FHI that was used on me that was amazing and so was the chi. :)

chi is awesome, but for a great one at a more affordable price is the ceramic straightener by hot tools.
