If a mother does drugs in the first trimester, what are the chances that the baby will be affected?

A 16 year old I know is pregnant, and she did marajuana in her 3rd month. She has stopped smoking now, but isn't the damage already done?

Yes it is very dangerous. The first trimester is actually the MOST dangerous and crucial time because that is when all of the baby's vital organs and limbs are growing and developing. The fetus has all it's organs fully formed by the second trimester, so you can only imagine the damage the could be done to the child by marijuana use.

She needs to give her baby up for adoption...

Any girl that is irresponsible and stupid enought to smoke weed at ALL, let alone while pregnant should NOT be allowed to be responsible for this poor little human's life..

  • I smoked cigarettes when I was pregnant with my son

Don't give me the lecture...I already know it was not good for me to do.

    However,my son is perfectly health.

As far as the marajuana, my doctor told me that it would have been better to smoke weed than cigarettes.

My mom smoked with my little sister throughout the entire pregnancy and she was fine.

Not saying to do it or that it is okay.

Marijuana is a relatively harmless drug compared to other things like cocaine, heroin, and meth, for example. The risks are largely for miscarriage, preterm labor, and low birthweight baby, but generally the latter two are issues only if the mother is a regular, long-term user throughout the pregnancy. There is no scientific evidence of physical defects or mental handicaps or anything like that. Her baby is almost certainly just fine.

She'll be fine. Look up an article by Melanie Dreher, she did a study on smoking marijuana during pregnancy. Your friends baby is fine. It safer than smoking cigs.
