Is Naples safe to visit with a land volcano and underwater volcano?!?

We wanted to visit Naples and Pompeii on our Italian trip this Summer. My 8 year old says he doesn't want to in case Marsili goes bang. Is it worth the risk?

The vesuvio is less a menace than the city and it's locals ! LISTEN TO LADYJEY , she got you an authentic description. It's really not a nice place to visit especially in roasting august with all the rubbish dumped in the streets. People are dishonest and lots of thieves are gonna rip you off. Rather visit tourist friendly Tuscany, Cinque Terre, Venice, Verona, Rome and and and..

    City problems are:

    - Mafia Camorra

    - rubbish

    - urban decay

    - micro crime

    TO ARRIVE AT "VULCANO":

    By train, bus or taxi

If you do not have a vehicle, you can reach the Vesuvius by public transport. Coming from Capodichino Airport should take the bus to Central Station (Piazza Garibaldi). Even if you arrive in Naples by FS trains must get off at Napoli Centrale. From there, take the Circumvesuviana railway station and reach the Ercolano-Scavi. Even those coming from Sorrento and Pompeii can reach Ercolano-Scavi station using the route to Naples, Sorrento and Pompeii-Naples Circumvesuviana. In the square outside the station that runs a bus service run by Vesuvius mobility, and shared taxis that just over half an hour lead on Vesuvius (altitude 1000). It 'can be reached by bus or directly Vesuvius from Pompeii or Naples (Piazza Piedigrotta). For details visit the Vesuvian mobility, find routes and schedules.

    Access to the crater

Once you reach the parking area of the 1000, you can visit one of the Infopoint of Vesuvius National Park. After passing through the ticket must continue on foot via a steep path along 860 meters with a height of 135 meters and an average gradient of 14%, which takes about 15-20 minutes on the western edge of the crater (1180 m ). The crater is open all year except the days when weather conditions make this impossible. Presents inside a cavity deeper than 300 meters, the crater rim with a circumference of 500 meters. The path continues among characteristic spikes and quickly leads to Capannuccia (1170 meters) behind which you can reach the highest point of Vesuvius (1281 meters). Suitable clothing is recommended along a mountain path that is over 1000 meters.

NB For more precise information and details about visiting the volcano, refer to the official website of the National Park of Vesuvius, at:

Millions of people live on and around Mount Vesuvius (monte vesuvio) without worrying about a sudden explosion. The scientists have all kind of Instruments inside the volcano that monitor it 24 hours a day. The government also has an evacuation plan. It is the kind of volcano that will give a warning of activity before it erupts (although it is way overdue for one). Please don't let this fear stop you from visiting Pompeii. It is worth it. (Naples not so much. It is the filthiest city that I have ever seen).

When you come, have a wonderful time!

Source(s): I live in central Italy and have visited Pompeii many times. I have even been near the top of Mount Vesuvius with no ill effects.

Marsili is a huge submarine volcano and it is really dangerous, not because there a risk of an upcoming eruption but because an earthquake could collapse it, causing a big tsunami

instead Mount Vesuvius is so much monitorated that is safe to visit it
