Are Ebooks a good way to publish my first children's book?
I've been trying to get this book published for over a year now. Someone suggested publishing it as an ebook. Are ebooks for younger kids popular? Will this get any attention from a publisher so that I can sell my next book? Does it cost to publish an ebook, or do I make any money from it?
Any info from those with experience would be appreciated!

Ebooks are a viable way to go, but you need to screen the publishers as carefully as you do print publishers. Key things to look for are:
1. Do I have to pay any fees to get published?
2. Will I have an ISBN? (That's the number on the back of any book cover and ebooks have them, too)
3. Are that publisher's books available on Amazon and through Fictionwise?
4. Do they publish juvenile fiction?
5. Do they pay royalities?
Do not expect an advance. I don't believe any epublishers pay advances and most of the big publishers have dropped them as well or limited them to $5,000 for new authors. The good thing about epublishing is your books don't go out of print in 90 days, but stay available for two years on most initial contracts and most of those automatically renew unless you notify them otherwise.

Writing a children's book, or any other kind of book for that matter, is like an extension of yourself and you will forever have that kind of extension for life when it is published. Treat it like something you don't want to just turn it into an investigatory project.
First is that you have to customize a plan that will work best with your ebook. List all the things your book needs such as book cover customization, editing, marketing, etc.
Second, find a publishing company that has everything your book requires. Just because eBooks are so technical doesn't mean you can just give your book away to anyone. Your publisher has to be legi and very much the kind of ebook publishing company you would go for.
Third, go through production process and then see if the book meets your standards.
I hope this helps.
Most self-publishing companies have programs that costs about $200 more or less and is highly dependent on the kind of services that you will be getting which is why it is very significant to carefully map out your book's budget as early as now.
Self-publishing entirely means that you get to retain full control of your book’s production and that it gives you the option to publish your work and claim authority of the photos that you have chosen to be published.

eBooks are growing in popularity for kids driven largely by the changes in technology. One of the top selling apps for the iPad last week was for children's ebooks.
But self-publishing, especially as an eBook, is a tricky business as most kids books (along with adults) are sold on marketing and good retail distribution. If you don't have a marketing platform, you wont get anywhere.
However, if your book is for young kids (10 years and under), can be illustrated and personalized to a child (as a main character), visit Little Heroes (www.littleheroes.com). They do personalized kids books in hard, soft and ebook format.
They are currently testing a self-publishing system (not as yet public) for authors and illustrators, which leverages off their and partner sales platform. The deal (risk and money-wise) is very good. Basically, you don't pay a cent to publish and they only make money when you do. Even better if you can get into their beta group as you get a lot of hand-holding. No worry if you don't have an illustrator, you can partner with one there.
Just use their contact form to enquire further.

This isn't a professional answer, but I will try to help out.
I'm pretty sure that you can find a free place to upload the book, but you won't make any money from that.
To actually make money you would need to host your own website and such, make a payment form (paypal perhaps) and you could do it that way. That costs money to do though.
You could always try contacting places that sell ebooks like iTunes (may sound like a BIG thing, but it's worth a try) about putting it on the site.
If you can get word out about your ebook, advertising on forums for children's book and such, then you'd be more than likely to find SOME sort of publisher after some time. There is no guarantee though.
Hope this helps you some.

Of course you would earn money unless you donated your story. However, I doubt ebooks would be a good choice for a children's book. That is something children wouldn't use and parents would be much less likely to buy. I would just try for the traditional publishing.

Not really.
No form of self-publishing is going to get you any attention from paying publishers. Sorry.

It's a great idea. It won't do you any harm and it may be one way of showing people your work.
Have you thought about starting a blog ?

Get a literary agent or purely initiate sending manuscripts to publishers. be positive to furnish kickbacks to those who stand on your thanks to achievement. you may continuously decrease back stab them later, once you may discover the money for more advantageous attorneys than theirs.
