Patient Advocates for the Disabled?

I am in disagreement with my doctor regarding my health care. I am disabled and get SSI, am I allowed a patient advocate? If so, where do I find one? Thanks!

Hospitals, insurance companies, and centers for independent living have patient advocates. Any organization that deals specifically with your disability should have patient advocates. Yes, just because you receive SSI benefits does not mean you have lost your right to advocate for yourself.

Contact a group for disabled children and ask if you can be a volunteer. You may have a Volunteers Bureau near you - your local social services office could put you in touch with them if you ring the council and they may help you find a suitable voluntary position. Visit the group you're interested in before you decide to volunteer there and think about whether you want to volunteer with physically disabled, children with learning difficulties or sick children (such as those who attend respite care in a hospice). If you are fond of riding, you could become a volunteer with your nearest Riding for the Disabled group. It's important your interests are covered too as you will bring more enthusiasm to your role than if you are doiung something that bores you.

Yes, You can find one through another Medical Facility; Ask your Family or Close Friends,Churches usually help. When you see a New Doctor, Request for all of your Medical Records through them, not your old Doctor's Office; to avoid conflict. Remember you have rights and needs that was not met, so you have to find a trust worthy Dr. Good Luck!
