Any suggestions for a 10 day Rome itinerary?
Not interested in shops, just ancient sites. Pompeii is not an option for excursion as my son refuses to go near the Naples area. He is 8 and found out about the "threat" of Tsunami (yeah I know but he's 8). But any other excursion ideas would be great ;-)
We will be staying right next to the Colosseum and going in July.

Rome is a fabulous place with lots to see! I thoroughly enjoyed myself for the 2 days I was there. But I would recommend you see some other places while in Italy. Rome offers great museums, the Spanish steps, the Trevi Fountain, The Colosseum, The Roman Forum, Vatican City, and all the other popular spots you're sure to hit up. But with a few hours train ride you can in many other magical places! I would suggest an overnight train to Venice. A day is plenty for the small city, but a few days is even better. You should also really try to make it up to Florence and Pisa. Pisa is very small and you can see them major sites in a few hours... Florence is a wonderful place to get lost in and explore... beautiful buildings, fabulous food, wonderful museums, and just a short trip north of Rome.

Hi, im 14, and went a year ago. I had a tour guide, and he took us EVERYWHERE. If your son likes churches and history, then there are MANY churches with great stories, but if he is more into fighting- boy things, i recommend going to The Colosseum, The Pantheon, Roman Forum, Vatican City, and this one church- but i forget the name. You can google the top 10 must sees while in rome- that gives you a lot. But since you are going in July, make sure you have snacks and water on you. We went in February, were always stopping for water and food.
