Why do people feel the need to continually ask "Is Mexico safe?"?

This question is asked at least 10 times a week for the last year. Can't they just look at any one of the other question/answer threads?

Usually ignorant and xenophobic types that believe everything that right wing media tells them, they dare not take the initiative and find out for themselves.

The answer is that because many people need to visit Mexico for either vacationing or visiting relatives. And there are a lot of bad things going on in Mexico lately such as:

    drug wars

    drug trafficking

    corrupt cops

    corrupt lawyers

and there have been a lot of Mexican celebrities that have been killed and the killers are probably in the mafia and the police there don't give a crap about seeking justice.(unlike in the US where if you are rich you can get justice done in your favor)

Also the roads there are very unsafe, if you look at the sides of the roads there you can see a lot of crosses pass by indicating where people have been killed by car accidents.

Out of the three North American countries Mexico is the least safe, but it doesn't mean that anyone who goes to visit there may not come back. I've been in Mexico in 2008 and I didn't run in into any trouble, as for today I'm not sure. Hopefully it will get safer in a few months and Mexico's president should really push for improving Mexico. This is part of the reason as to why many Mexicans come to the US. Not all of Mexico is unsafe there are rural places where the only hazzard is getting run over by a horse or getting bitten by a black widow. Just some advice is to stay away from poor urban areas, try to avoid border states, try not to get drunk and piss off a lot of people, don't expect doctors to do a good job (same as in the US but less good) and do not yell in english or give the attention that you are from the US, many Mexicans assume that all Americans are rich and if some criminal sees you they might try something evil on you. I'm not too sure on this advice but it is something I would try.

Source(s): I am Mexican-American and been going to Mexico.

Perhaps they want to see if the status has changed. As far as I can tell it continues to be unsafe. Developments in the past days in the central states of Michoacan, Morelos and Mexico are disheartening to say the least.

in 10 seconds, and a yahoo search, i found the governments stance -

People may be hoping for an average Joe (or Julio) to tell them that their neighborhood is safe.

Well there is a lot going on over there right now. I live right on the border. Its crazy over here sometimes. Sometimes across the river you can hear bombs, gun shots, and a bunch of criminal activity. The cartels are really taking over Mexico right now. ITs an all out drug war over there.

Mexico isn't safe. Safe is safe and Mexico is Mexico. It's like saying apple is banana which isn't true

Because it's not safe. People just keep hoping.

It's always when there's a lull in the beheadings.

Because they're secretly hoping that someone will say "Yes, it's safe" and then teens can go down to Tijuana and get raped and killed and blame the Y!A people for doing it.
