Religion & Humanity: Your opinion?

Is it just me or religion and humanity just do NOT go hand in hand?

Before you come with the whole GOD LOVES EVERYONE talk, remember that most wars ever battled were for religious purposes. Even territorial wars were for religious purposes.

It's not just you. Spirituality (humanity) does not require religion. Religions are responsible for most of the conflicts in the world today, because they are led by men seeking power and money...not spirituality. They are dogmatic and demanding. Spirituality is having a connection with a higher power, whose purpose is noble and asks that we carry out God's will in our lives. All the great religions have great basic messages from very spiritual people that did not demand compliance to strict guidelines...Christianity with Jesus preaching love, Buddhism with all life is suffering...help those who still suffer, the Koran which is a beautiful celebration of gratitude to God, etc, etc

People just have to come along with dreams of control, money and power to construct rules, regulations, and ceremonies around cultural norms and wreck what are beautiful messages from God. People who dare to interpret the great prophets for their own gain disgust me. This forum is full of the arrogant wannabe preachers of their faith.

If you follow my answers here on R&S, you will see that I see value in all the great religious literature and I often quote from the bible, Koran, Buddhists and others. But I slam any formal religion for it's audacity and conceit in it's belief of being the one and only truth in man's search for God and meaning. Otherwise, they have great value in seeking God's plan for us.

My fear is that religions will continue to take over governments leading to more killing in the world. Fundamentalists are dangerous and present in many religions. In the US, there is a large group of Christians striving to make the US a Christian nation led by their self-appointed leaders. Imagine the possibilities!

    1) Is it just me or religion and humanity just do NOT go hand in hand?

So - you're saying that religion only thrives *without* humanity?

Have you been talking to our friends from Frolix 8 again?

    2) remember that most wars ever battled were for religious purposes

Almost certainly false (though I know of no one who has attempted to do a survey statistically categorizing the cause of **all wars**). Please take a course in world history. It is extremely rare - historically - for religion to be the *cause* of a war.

While I would argue about how many wars had a direct link to religion, I do agree that religion and humanity go together like oil and water.

  • Many humanitarian efforts are done in the name of religion also.

War also happens over money, power, resources, and territory...so maybe humans and humanity do not go hand in hand.

Blame game is fun...pointless...but hell - we're human right?!

whatttt??? they go hand in hand really well actually. humans know that our efforts aren't enough, fate can always screw us over. One can work hard his entire life and be killed in a car accident at age 20... because of these occurrences people are quick to rely on religion and the spiritual existences.

We wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities and power against the darkness of this world against spiritual wickedness, in high places, Ephesians 6: 12 and 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 "Because the weapons of our ware fare are not waged according to the flesh but our weapons are mighty through God, to pulling down of strongholds casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself above the knowledge of God, bringing every thought captive to the obedience of Christ"

You may not know or see in the realm of the spirit, and I 'm sure of that; But throughout history satan and his bunch have erected strongholds throughout the world, were crave evils and sinfulness have abounded, as we have seen of late Haiti. There was witchcraft and VOODOO, going on, for many years. When God sent missionaries, to preach the gospel to separate to Himself a people who will to do truth, the ware fare in heaven over the people of Haiti ensued.

The earth quake was for the waking up the people who were sitting on the wall of indecision, and many of them who were involved with witchcraft perished.

You and many many many only know what your eyes can see only physical things, and that's it.

The scripture I have given above you suffice that there are things you do not comprehend.

Therefore not having knowledge of these things, you shouldn't speak as though you KNOW.

Are you indeed ignorant, or are you on the devils side?

Are you ashamed of the LOVE of God?

Humans think were so great with our "God" but when you realise we're just a spit of rock in a incomprehensibly large universe, religion becomes more and more pointless. Just live your life with a positive attitude and whatever God is, if it is "all knowing" then it knew and wanted everyone to kill each other in its name.

Religion is an institution established for political and social control. Humans like power (and control), so with that in mind and in that regard they go together SPLENDIDLY.

As far as advancing the human race, they go together like water and phosphorous.
