Will this 35mm film process and develop properly?

I have a film canister from 1985 with a good 20-30 shots on it, the brand is Kodacolour VR and the speed is 1000 ASA if that matters. Should I risk spending money to get it developed or play it safe and discard it?

Thanks in advance.

Update:

ISO 1000, my mistake.

Why is discarding it "playing it safe"?????

If you throw it away, then you SURE will have NOTHING. You are only talking a few bucks to take it someplace like Walmart and have it processed. You might be surprised to find what is on there, perhaps some really great memory, or shot of an old friend. Sure, there may be some color shift, or they may not turn out at all, but so what? Probably you would not even be charged if the photos do not develop at all.

DON'T throw it away. It is not the end of the world if it will not process correctly, and may just be a terrific surprise at what you find that does come from it.

As an added note. When my wife and I go to Goodwill stores, I always check inside all the old cameras out on the shelf looking for film left in them. If any have film, I take it out of the camera and get the film developed. So far I have not found any "treasures", but it is still lots of fun to see what is there.

    DON'T throw it away.

Most one hour labs will develop the film for $2 to $3. That's less than a Big Mac. Get the film developed, who knows, you might find some great memories on it. If you do then you can have the film scanned and make prints.

If you do not want to spend the money then give the roll to me. I will reimburse you for the postage to send it.

In all likelihood the images have sustained some degradation if not totally lost. If the roll of film was stored in a freezer, I would say send it in and hope for the best. If they were stored where heat and humidity were very changeable, chances are not much is usable. Good luck!

if you take it to a regular film developing place, like a one hour photo place, they will develop the pics, but you only pay for those that come out. Most places only charge for the pics that you want to buy, if they are over exposed, or too grainy, ect... you have no obligation to purchace them. Just be sure to check them over before you leave the store, or pay for your purchace.

Source(s): I have developed 10+ yr old rolls of 10/100 and had a few pics salvageable so there is a chance :)

Usually the lower ASA/ISO will last longer past expired date. B&W film will last longer than color.
