Anybody have first hand knowledge of Da Nang?

It has been a few years since I visited last and wondered what it's like today. Are there many ex-pats, how is the night life, what about China Beach, whoops, think they changed the name, anybody know, how about the renting a room/apts by the month and how about people speaking English? http://vietnam-now.com/

Very pretty place, i was there a year ago and was just astounded by the cultural and natural beauty of the place. I personally stayed about an hour south on the beach in a small town called Hoi An. The beach there was tied for the best one i have ever been on, right beside that of one in Thailand. The hotel I stayed at was quite pricey but was easily the most luxurious and Zen like place i have ever been. It was called the Nam Hai, and is part of the GHM chain. Do take a look at it. As for the English, it was pretty hit and miss when it came to the staff and the citizens in the town, but if you cant communicate then you just had to ask the next person.

A word of warning though, the Da Nang airport is just plain terrible. We were delayed there for 7 hours on the way back home to Canada and we nearly missed our next flight. The language barrier there is horrendous and there isn't anything you can do about it so make sure to give yourself some extra time in between when you land and leave again.

    Have a fun time.

Da Nang is a growing city. It has changed dramatically over the last few years. There are many new malls, tourist attractions, water parks, etc. The night life is great. Cafe shops and night clubs are very popular. People who work in hotel and tourist attractions know how to speak English but good luck trying to understand them. Signs on street are becoming to be a combination of Viet and English.

Da Nang is a beautiful city and the best part about it are the beaches.
