How can I increase traffic to my blog?

There are many ways to get your blog content noticed but all requires time and effort.

There is actually a science behind it but without going into 101 ways of how to, I just going to share the 4 best ways to get going for your situation.

1) First thing you MUST do is to tag (or put in the keywords) your blog post. Go to https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExter... and enter the main topic of your blog content.

The returning results gives you an idea what Google think is the most popular keywords used for your blog topic. Look through the keywords and get about 5 to 10 of the most popular and yet most relevant keywords for your blog content.

Tag them in your blog post. This gives your blog post a better chance of showing up higher in the search result which in turn bring in more web traffic.

But make sure you use tags (or keywords) that is meaningful and relevant to your content.

2) Second, don't be shy to use header tags (ie h1, h2, h3 tags) or bold words that may be interesting to your reader and relevant to your blog content.

In fact use the same method as I detailed above and use header tags or bold words for keywords that are relevant to your blog content.

Search engines like Google pay extra notice of words with header tags and bold words. Again, using this method, your blogpost will have a better chance of showing up higher in the search result which also in turn bring in more web traffic.

3) If you have a Facebook, twitter, social bookmarking (eg Digg, StumbleUpon ...etc) account, put it on your profile and spread the word.

Google loves authority sites like Facebook, twitter, social bookmarking sites and when these authority sites link to your blog, Google sits up and take notice.

But be careful that you do not overdo it. That is, do NOT social bookmark your blogspot page everyday and nothing else. Sites like Digg would think you are spamming and black list you which is the last thing you need.

4) Go to Google and look for the top forums that is relevant to your blog content. Register your account and be involved in the issues. Everytime, you make a comment, make sure you sign off with your name followed by your blog URL.

The more websites that links to your blog, the better your "link juice" is.

To put it REALLY simply, "link juice" is a term that a lot of Internet Marketer used that describe how search engines calculate the relevancy and popularity of your website. The more link juice you have from other website esp authority sites, the better your ranking will be.

5) The last method may or may not be relevant to your blog.

If you have a self hosted blog, that is your blog not a free blog from blogspot.com or blogger.com, then make sure the first thing you do is to register your blog with Technorati.

Technorati is one of the biggest blog directory. In fact, Technorati is more than a blog directory but for your purposes here, let leave it as that.

Technorati is a HUGE authority site that many search engines like Google, Yahoo, MSN keep an eye on. So registering your blog with Technorati is a big step in letting the world know about your blog.

These are just a few ways that some savvy internet marketer use to get their blog more popular and noticed.
