  • What setting should I use on my Body Fat Analyzer Omron HBF-306c?

I am definitely overweight, in fact BMI charts list me as obese, but I've been on a weight loss plan and have lost over 30 pounds since June, putting me more than 40 pounds down from my highest weight. The Omron device has settings for Athlete and Normal. It gives a formula based on the amount of exercise you get to determine which setting to use. Well, I have been working out a lot since June. I do 30-60 of cardio every day, the cardio I do incorporates strength training through intervals and "boot-camp" style workouts. On top of that, I walk about 3 miles every day. Based on the amount of exercise, the Omron instructions say to use the "Athlete" setting.

However, I question this since I'm obese, how can I be classified as an Athlete? Based on measurements and online calculators, I am fully expecting to get a reading of 50% body fat or more. Yet the instructions and the formula would have me enter myself as an "Athlete". I may be exercising as much as an athlete NOW, but but that has only been for the past 4 months... but there is no way to tell the Omron thing that.

Does anyone here have some familiarity with this device? Can you tell me which setting to use?

It would be great to hear from someone who has used the device on more than one person, and get an idea what they say.

  • How do I get my computer and camera to talk?

My computer and my camera won't talk, I get this message in the device manager, "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)". I've tried reinstalling the software, restarting the computer, checking for driver updates, and checking online for a solution. What next?

Oh, and I know the camera works, because it does work with my daughters laptop, and it used to work with my computer.

It is a Canon Rebel xs, and my computer OS is Windows Vista.

  • Is there an online resource about chess openings, that would let me look up openings by first move...?

... by first move rather than by name. For example, instead of needing to know it is called "Benko's Opening" I could just enter the first move "g3" and get a list of openings and variations that start that way? So I could study based on what I need to know, rather than by being expected to already know the name of the opening?

    Hope that made sense!

  • How many moves constitutes a chess opening? At what point is the "opening" finished and the middlegame begun?

I am learning to play chess, and I am wondering about these terms, is an opening the first 8 moves? First 10? Does it vary by game? How can you tell when you are officially into the "middlegame"?

  • Who are you rooting for in Sunday's Race?

No answer will get a thumbs down from me, I like all the drivers and respect what they do to bring entertainment to the fans. I love the sport and feel like every single one of them bring something unique to the track and add to the experience. I do have my favorites though, and I'm rooting for Jimmie and team 48 first and foremost. How about you?

  • Any ideas what's wrong with this mower?

I asked this in home and garden also, but I figured I'd be more likely to find a knowledgeable person here.

I am learning small engine repair, and right now I'm working on a mower. It came to me unable to keep running, seemed to flood and die. I did all the obvious stuff, replaced the spark plug and air filter because both were filthy, changed the oil which was basically sludge. The mower is running better, but after using it for about 20 minutes it dies. It also gets pretty hot before stopping. The cooling fins are clean, but the housing on one side is lower because of a wheel that's jammed in the wrong position, I need to figure out how to unjam it. Also the blade is very dull, has almost no cutting surface left. Could the dull blade be causing the engine to work harder and to overheat, and is it possible that the low rear housing on one side causing the blade to drag the ground and kill the engine? I don't feel or hear the blade dragging the ground, but it does seem to me that a dull blade would make the engine work harder.

  • What else could smell like gasoline besides gasoline?

There is a smell of gasoline in my house, getting stronger every day it seems. I can't find the source, it makes no sense. It is not a natural gas smell, besides we don't have natural gas here. We are not on a sewer system, but a private septic system that is working fine. I was wondering what other chemicals besides gasoline might give off that same smell.

  • Which is the better camera, the Canon Rebel xs, or the Canon EOS 20D?

I have the opportunity to buy either one of these for about the same price, the EOS 20D though has two lenses included, cleaning kit, filters, etc. The Rebel comes with the kit lens strap, and everything typically included with the kit. So I am curious as to which camera body is actually better.

  • With a DSLR, is what you see in the viewfinder, what you get?

I am shopping for DSLR, and I was checking out a Cannon Rebel XS at a store. While trying out the display camera, I found that no matter how hard I tried the manual focusing, I could not see a clear picture in the view finder, but every time I snapped a picture, IT was clear and in focus even though what I saw through the viewfinder wasn't. Is this normal, or was there something wrong with the display camera?

I have used an SLR, it was years ago, and it was film. I seem to remember that whatever it looked like in the viewfinder was what the photo looked like, is this not true for Digital SLR cameras?

Thanks for you help, I really want a starter DSLR.

  • Can anyone give me ideas for classroom games? Combined grades 1-6 class?

I teach an enrichment class for homeschool students in grades 1-6, I know that tomorrow I will have extra time at the end of class, and I would like to have some quick (quiet) games. We have played "Heads up Seven Up" many times, and would like something different. Any suggestions?

  • Why would someone who knows me in real life, and seems fine with me, refuse a Facebook Friend Request.?

This person has a facebook profile, goes to my church, and is friends with most of my friends on Facebook. We both homeschool our kids, and talk to each other at church. I sent a friend request to both her and her husband, and both chose to delete the request without accepting it. Needless to say, it has me wondering if the friendly chit-chat at church is all fake and they really can't stand me.

I know they both refused the request because first on her profile it went back to saying, "Add to Friends", then a couple of days later his did the same thing.

I guess it really doesn't matter, but it does make me wonder about the reason... oh well, I guess its better to know where I stand.

  • I have a question about Passover, where does the tradition of carp come from?

I know that there is a tradition of eating carp at Passover, but in reading about the Seder, I couldn't find any reference to it, so I assume it is not part of the actual ceremonial Seder. Anyway, if anyone could explain this to me, I'd be most appreciative.

  • Examples with good and bad pit stops? specific races?

I am teaching a class of elementary age students and we are doing a unit study on NASCAR, I am hoping to find video examples of good and bad pit stops. I have almost the entire 2009 season recorded, but don't have time to watch it all to find what I need. Anyone with a memory better than mind know which race it was when the crew didn't tighten a lug nut all the way? Or when the crew made some other mistake that cost the driver track position or points?
