Ipad or Low end laptop?
So Im going to go on a foreign exchange this coming fall. One of my parents good friends offered to buy me a laptop. I was thinking about acutely getting an Ipad. What do you think? All i would need really would be Microsoft Word and the internet. Which do you think would be a better deal and why?

The iPad is NOT a substitute for a laptop! Steve Jobs (Apple CEO) said so himself. The iPad is a smart phone with a bigger screen.
It is made with the assumption that the owner will also have a "real computer"! It requires sync with a real computer to download updates. You can't print files from it. You can't download files except from a camera. You can't copy files out to a thumb drive. It doesn't create Word-compatible documents.
Get a tiny laptop. They're out there for about the same price. An ASUS EEEPC 1000-series will get you GREAT power. A Lenovo IdeaPad Y550p will give you humongous power. See this: http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/notebooks/ideapad/y-s...

If I were you, I would get a Mac. Buying an iPad won't help you get anywhere. iPads, they're great, they're beautiful, and they cost much less than everybody thought they would. But let's face it: iPads are not computers. Why not get a Macintosh? If really all you need is Microsoft Word and the Internet, get the cheapest Mac with the less memory. But you don't buy a laptop if all you need is Word and the Web. I'm sure you'll need it for more stuff.
Although Macs are not cheap, they're the best computers around. Might as well give some extra money to your parents' friends so that can get you a nice computer.
If you just want to play games and read eBooks, and do all the features on the iPhone and iPod Touch, and much more, get an iPad.
Hope I helped!

If price deals are all you are looking for a low-end notebook or Netbook will be a much cheaper bet however if you are looking for the best product then i would go for the ipad. I personally would buy the ipad because the battery lasts longer and it is way more portable. Also you can get some great language apps for the ipad. Furthermore if all you are doing is word processing and internet surfing the ipad is way more streamlined.
PS: if you are going to buy the ipad be sure to get the case (great deal) and a bluetooth keyboard is a safe bet if you are doing word processing at a desk!.
Hope this helps! If you want more advice or have any questions be free to email me at yaris.toyota@gmail.com!

Pc Laptop because iPads can't multitask or watch flash videos like youtube, also the iPads onscreen keyboard is odd to use. (Apple wants 70 dollars for a bluetooth keyboard) Go with Pc Laptop, atleast with a laptop you can use your MS Word and have more then one thing open and switch back and forth. Also make sure your new laptop DOESNT have Windows Starter edition as that is limited as well. Look for windows home premium, professional or ultimate op system.

Definently get a laptop. The iPad can only do what an iPhone can do plus a few minor things. A laptop will do way more for a cheaper price.

Hi Maddy J;
A laptop will be a better decison i think. The reason being that you may wish to do other things with the laptop (web cam, large file storage, watch DVD's etc). You mentioned you wish to use MS Word or other MS products( which you can't do on the Ipad right now). Whatever you decide, have fun with it.

Laptop.
A laptop will give you many more options than the Ipad, Typing on the Ipad have proven to be a chore, you can't multitask, you can't watch DVD's on the Ipad. So dollar for dollar a laptop will work much better for you.

well if you only want word and internet you should get an laptop coz it will be cheaper then the ipad and you will have lotz of other things on it. I have an ipad and a laptop both are good but i would recommend the laptop. If you want something new you can have the ipad itz good.

laptop, esp. if it's gonna be your sole computer. it only has 64gb of storage and you still need to hook it to a computer if you want to transfer files into it unless you're downloading files directly off the internet. still 64gb is nothing these days. ipad is great if you're an architect or a doctor or something similar to read ebooks off of or perhaps patients' charts and x-ray results (not sure if there's already an ipad app for it tho).
the lenovo s10-3t is also a touchscreen pc with 2gb ram (believe me, you don't want a slow computer) and up to 250gb and USB ports you can plug external hard drives into if you want.

get the laptop. for what you will be using it for, you can get a lot more laptop for that much money. and the ipad is just too new. everyone who knows anything about them is saying wait for the 2G.
