the ants & the hummingbirds?
every year the hummers & I lose the battle of the ants. I don't have a tree to hang the feeder, so I put it on a pole,, here come the ants , right up it into the feeder. How to stop it. I've tried 1/2 dozen suggestions that didn't work. If I hang from porch , would they still come while we are sitting there? I really enjoy watching them, but would give it up if that is the only way to feed them. Thank you in advance for suggestions.

you can hang it from the porch and after they get used to seeing you they will come while you are there if you aren't moving around and making a lot of noise, also you can put a lot of ant killer at the base of the pole.I noticed that when I wear red they get very close and don't seem to care if I am there at all.p.s. if you use the ant killer , you must replace it every so often. One product I used is called 'orothene", I warn you that it stinks to high heaven But it kills ants like nothing else I have ever used.

To keep ants from getting into your hummingbird feeders, take a sheet of Bounce (dryer sheet) and wrap around the hanger with a rubber band of tape on the ends. The ants won't come near it or get into the hummingbird's sugar solution. This works well especially if you have hummingbird feeders hanging from trees.

I too have humming bird feeders and have problems with ants. Moving it to the patio does not solve the problem, the ants come to the patio.
I put down a layer of ant killing powder around the base of the pole. That stops them.

I saw at Home Depot, a suction cup that was attached to the feeder, maybe you can put in a window that you look out of.

Take a strip of flypaper and wrap it around the bottom of the base. See if the bounce works first though cuz that sounds like it would look better than a strip of dead bugs

an 'ant moat' like this is easy to rig up yourself with a spray PAM cap..... a little silicone or other sealer ( i used clay!) in the hole so the cap holds water.... foils the ants as long as there is water in the cap!.....read here and check out the picture... third question down....
