How to use a DVD player when hooked up to a cable co. with DVR box?

I have a Sony HDTV and also a cable company to deal with. In trying to watch a DVD disc, it takes me too long to change the inputs so I can do so, but how do I get back to watching regular t.v. without having to call the cable co. I need simple terms, no technical terms that I will not understand. Can anyone help an older, widowed female who may be smart but not up on the latest technology. Thanks and God bless

Your Sony HDTV has all sorts of AV connections on the back so you should be able to connect both devices (and many more if need be) to the back of your TV and leave them connected all the time. You then would use the input button on the remote or the side of the TV to switch to the appropriate input, depending on what you want to do.

The trick here will be communicating this information to you in a way that you will understand, since you are not familiar with the terms. You should first dig your Sony manual out and look at the section there where they talk about all the input types you have.

Then I would print this connection guide out and refer to it as needed.

I would guess that your DVD player probably has component video as the best video output type for you to choose from. The connecting jacks and cables are color coded red, green and blue to help you figure out what goes together. You literally connect the jacks on the back of the TV with a like colored cable and connect that to the like colored outputs on the back of the DVD player. Those three connections will just carry video so you need also to find the red and white audio jacks to carry the sound.

I'll try to check in later and if you have any questions or if I have not provided enough detail, let me know and I will try again.
