Pain in my buttock after kata - any cure to easy this pain in the arsss?

Thanks. Got my Shodan grading in May, this might sound like simple complaining but sure this has come from trying to lower my stances, starts in buttock has radiated to sacral area base of spine and down back of leg. Can still run but stiff and more painful after sitting for a while

Update:

I am a qualified Yoga instructor I know how to stretch, just a thought I kick way better with my right leg & pain is in the left. Ibruprofen and muscle rubs help briefly, is this (hopefully) just a pulled muscle or (the dreaded) sciatica?

I am to be 40 years old this year. Pain now coming through to tummy muscle at front, YUK! feel sick

    Hi there

Think of it as a collection of injuries for all the hard work? Yep this could be sciatica especially if you have some lower back pain as well. Over the years I'vee found that all muscle and joint problems require a multitude of treatments. Professional manipulation, hot and cold treatments, warm baths etc, pain killers to relax your muscles etc. Get some pro advice if its causing you major discomfort. But to be honest most docs in the UK are like my **** when it comes to this sort of thing. Sorry for the phun but its true.lol

Still best to get it checked out and once you get back to normal mobility start building up the problem muscles to strengthen them to minimise repeat problems. Drink lots of water too as its vital for muscle and joint repair.

The Big days in May is it then?

Hope you get it sorted and it goes well for you. I'm sure it will.

As for me I'llll be back in Japan in May and probably be put on my **** a few times too. No phun intended. lol

    Best wishes

This sounds like a sciatic nerve problem to me. I had the same problem and pain did not stop even when sitting. I suffered with this a long time and at one time, I thought that eventually this pain would stop my martial arts career.

I tried all sorts of things to stop the pain from massages to cortisone shots. In the end, the only thing that worked for me was stretching. I especially focused on stretching the lower back and legs. I hope this helps!

My sensei says that after 40, something is always hurting. However yours sounds a bit severe.

Have you tried chiropractic or acupuncture/acupressure? Those can do wonders for pain.

I agree with those who have said you may have a nerve impingement or nerve inflammation. Honestly I'd say set up a doctors appointment if you can. See if they can confirm it and what he/she recommends as a solution.

You should practise Yoga as part of your stretching.
