Are Flights going to England from JFK New York still delayed do to the volcano in Iceland? Any updated news?

A few transatlantic flights have been allowed to land in western Scotland but the gaps in the ash cloud are intermittent. I think the entire UK airspace is now closed again.

Update: Yeah, see the BAA webpage below. They operate the most of the large airports in the UK (3 in southeast England and 3 in Scotland) and their webpage says all flights are suspended until 7am tomorrow (Sunday). The air traffic control agency will issue an update at 9pm tonight (in ten minutes time).

Further update: NATS (the air traffic control agency) have just announced that the restrictions will remain in place until at least 1pm tomorrow (Sunday)

[Salt water needs a lower temperature to freeze than pure water. The resulting ice contains much less salt than the salt water it came from. This salty ice is not as strong as frozen pure water. Similarly spreading salt on ice melts it: the salt progressively eats into the ice, forming salty water which is not cold enough to be frozen at the same temperature. Because ice floats, even large bodies of water that freeze, like some oceans, only form ice on the surface. Most lakes never freeze to the bottom. Even the coldest oceans, like the Arctic, only freeze on the top, leaving liquid ocean circulating below. Because of this the Earth's oceans are able to redistribute heat and the climate of the earth has less extremes of heat and cold than it would otherwise. If ice were to sink instead of float, the oceans would fill up with ice from the bottom, would remain solid and only some of the top would thaw. A solid ocean would not circulate heat. But because ice floats on the surface the water beneath can continue to circulate and the ice on the surface stays exposed and readily melts when the temperature rises.]

Why ask here? Can you access your airline? Don't you think that would be the better way to check?

Latest NEWS sources said that the cloud is getting worse, not better, and grounding flights through more of Europe.

NATs is the National Air Traffic site the giver and taker of Flight permission for UK airspace.

Everything depends on the winds some flights from US got into Scotland instead of London.

Most closed I think, my bf can't get back to LAX from Heathrow until Tuesday most likely

the latest is delayed until at least tomorrow morning 0700.. (sunday)

Uk airspace is currently closed until 1pm (UK time) tomorrow.
