Theodens Speech, inspired by The Wanderer?

Has anyone else noticed how Theodens speech before the Battle of Helmsdeep closely resembles a verse out of the Old English poem called The Wanderer?

Theodens Speech:

Where is the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing?

Where is the helm and the hauberk, and the bright hair flowing?

Where is the hand on the harp string, and the red fire glowing?

Were is the Spring and the harvest and the tall corn growing?

They have passed like rain on the mountain, like wind in the meadow.

Who shall gather the smoke of the dead wood burning?

Or behold the years from the sea returning?

The movie version is somewhat different to that penned by Tolkien.

The Wanderer:

Where is the horse gone? Where is the rider?

Where is the giver of treasure?

Where are the seats at the feast?

Where are the revels in the hall?

Alas for the bright cup,

alas for the mailed warrior,

alas for the splendour of the prince!

How that time has passed away,

dark under the cover of night,

as if it had never been.

Tolkien was Professor of Anglo-Saxon (that is, Old English) and later Professor of English Language and Literature so the resemblance is deliberate.

You're so right, maybe he should get Joe Lieberman to stand next to him correcting him when he repeats incorrect facts on the one topic he claims to be an expert. Can we look forward to quotes like... "Rarely is the question asked, is our children learning?" "Kids do learn" "You can fool some of the people all the time, and those are the ones you want to concentrate on" "And I want to thank the Canadian people who came out to wave -- with all five fingers -- for their hospitality" "Too many OB-GYNs aren't able to practice their love with women all across this country" "You teach a child to read, and he or her will be able to pass a literacy test." Yes those were all Dubya. McCain isn't as funny, but he get's things wrong way to often. I don't think he's misleading us intentionally most of the time, but at his age, the memory just isn't what it used to be.
