GE Washing Machine question?

What would cause the machine to go into the wash cycle without filling up with either cold or hot water? The control panel lights up and sort of cycles through the different lights one after the other. Didn't find any loose wires or burn spots on the control board. Machine is the large capacity and is the latest model they make.

Update:

robforgo, If I choose to replace the control panel board how do I get the knobs off? Do they pry off or is there some hidden device locking them in place? I don't want to mess the face up if I can keep from it.

BTW, control board costs $75. The repair folks want $139 just to show up at the door. Grrrr

Still checking things out via the other answer. Hang in there for my selection. Both are great.

It can be one of several problems such as:

Water Supply--water was turned off--check and make sure the water supply hasn't been turned off

Water Inlet Valve--Can be clogged or faulty

Water Level Switch and/or the Timer Control--like other parts, these can go bad

Now for what to do. Rather than writing instructions for each one of the above, I will send you on to my favorite site that has enabled me to trouble shoot and fix our dryer once and our washer 3 times. It's a great site. Go to the middle of the page to the section on "No water is entering the wash tub" and by clicking on one of the possible causes, you will be shown how to easily and safely trouble shoot that possible cause. It's a great site that has helped me many times. Best of luck.
