What if air travel in the future becomes impossible due to volcanic ash clogging up jet engines?

See the newspaper article here: http://www.thestar.com/news/world/article/797160--...

If the Iceland volcano keeps erupting for years, what will happen when jet travel in Europe, Russia, Asia and North America is all shut down? We even send fresh vegetables via air. Seems silly, but we do.

Update:

Before you give a lame answer, actually read the article posted. We're not talking about ash on the ground, we're talking about ash STUCK in the jet stream and causing havoc on jet engines. To get through an ash cloud pilots have to turn off the plane's engines, glide through the ash cloud, hope they reach the other side and then try to restart the engines which may have become clogged/damaged by passing through the ash cloud.

Two solutions. Reduce cruise altitude to one which would not be affected or find a means of minimizing the effect. The latter would mean to clean incoming air which is not likely with Jets but might be done for piston aircraft.

there are lots of worse issues going on in our international than international Warming greater suitable seen climate exchange. I advise we hassle approximately those issues first. the debate of an upcoming ice age replaced into greater like 40 years in the past and it replaced into quite merely a small team of scientists with a small quantity of conflicting information. The media have been given carry of this concept and ran with it merely to sell further information papers quite. The exhaust trails you notice from intense flying jet airplanes is especially much all water vapour.

Not a very plausible "what if". In that scenario, life in general would become pretty unpleasant as the world began to plunge into global climate change. If it did happen, I guarantee that a way would be figured out to surmount that problem. I suppose you believe in the world ending in 2012 too?

I imagine southern routes would become predominant, with surface transit used to travel north.

I don't know about you guys but I've already duct taped a bunch of my local birds together and mounted a seat in between them. I plan to continue flying.
