who was at fault? (brawl)?

i personally think Shields camp over reacted to a common practice in mma and that is asking for a rematch in the post fight interview. Mayhem was being Mayhem and Melendez freaked out, apparently they don't think Shields can fight his own battles. what do you all think?

Well, Mayhem being Mayhem isnt quite an excuse but yeah, Sheilds and his camp did everything possible to make a bad situation worse. And why is everyone blaming gilbert? Jake is the one who pushed miller first, he even said as much in his post-post fight interview. honestly, most of the Gracie camp is lucky to not be in jail for assualt right now, Nick in particular. there was some great camera action showing Nick kicking Miller while he was on the ground.

fall out? well CBS has said as much that the brawl wont be an obstacle to future live fights, so if CBS decides not to show future live events its going to be because the actual fights were boring from a casual fans perspecitve. they want to see guys bang and most of the fights were of a more technical nature, enjoyable for those of us who understand the technique but we're the minority.

many of the Gracie fighters could still be facing legal action once the DA's office gets ahold of the footage. Nick, Gilbert and Jake could be looking at fines from the state athletic commission and or Strike force itself. Nate could be barred from cornering anyone at a strikeforce event for the foreseeable future. But something tells me that when these boys are REALLY going to see a bad day is when Cesar takes them to task for embarrassing his school on national television.

for his part i think millers going to be waiting for that rematch for a good long time now...can you say trapped in undercard hell?

or they could all get a slap on the wrist or a <wink wink> "dont do that again" for putting on the fight with the most action all night. who knows?

anyone betting how big a grin Dana's had on his face all day though? lol

Mayhem Miller had no business in the ring at that point in time while Shield's corner did. While you can make an argument for who pushed who first or what they did after that and I think there is some blame to go around and Miller is the first that they should deal with for his part in all this. While I am not familiar with the rules in Tennessee I can tell you that the unified rules as adopted by New Jersey and Nevada which many states, including Illinois have adopted say who can and should be in the ring or cage and under those rules Miller should not have been there. The situation that transpired is exactly why you have rules outlining this and also can be pretty severe for people or fighters that violate them and I think there will be several people finned and suspended before it is all over.

A lot of times guys go in and ask for a rematch after wards, but that was definitely the quickest I have ever seen another, non-competing fighter jump in on the post-fight interview and camera time. There was a lot of over-reaction, but it was first of all a disrespectful move to jump in that quickly right after a guy just had the biggest win of his career and beat down a legend.

I wonder if CBS/Strike Force are not primarily to blame, for not doing a better job of managing the traffic flow in the cage after the fight.

Hopefully it won't matter, because Shields should go sign with UFC and fight GSP. That's what 99% of fight fans want to see.

I think Miller was a douche for interrupting the interview and that Shields' camp overreacted by jumping Miller. Yeah, asking about a rematch in the ring is common practice, stealing the mike while a fighter is still being interviewed is pretty classless.
