Is Drew Doughty the next, even better, Scott Niedermayer?

My dad and I were talking about it last night. Drew Doughty is the real thing, do you think he's a future hall-o'-famer? Can he be one of the next great defensemen? Best of all time? Or do you dislike him? Overrated?

Thoughts, opinions, all are welcomed. (ahem, remember, opinions are opinions, don't go crazy...)

BQ: Is there a series right now where you don't like either team, and hope a bomb drops on the arena? (for me, sens-pens)

Update:

senaturds, lol, thanks to all so far, keep going people!

  • Doughty is good, very good. If I had to do his job at age 20 (I'm 13) I'll probably start crying and ask for my mommy. As for being BETTER than Niedermayer, well that's what we have to wait and see. We all know what he did in the Olympics. This kid is great and hasn't reached his full potential, I'm scared to see how he will play when he has reached that level. Look at was he has done in like 20 months of NHL experience. I think he can reach the Niedermayer/Lidstrom level. I really don't like people talking about the HOF this early in a players career saying that he is going to play 15+ years. But anything can happen in 15 years. Matt Cooke could happen. He could get a career ending injury and God lets hope that doesn't happen. I would like him to even reach Bobby Orr level but that won't happen.

guy i know . . . prongers virus *** have been given the ducks a cup . . . hmmm . . . wit im thinking that grew to become right into a stupid remark . . . yep it grew to become into. Niedermayer is the extra suitable defenseman with the help of a ways from a qualifications point of view, yet Pronger makes use of his length very effectively. Its rather stressful to even evaluate the two they variety so stylistically. i could in my opinion take Niedermayer, inspite of the incontrovertible fact that it relies upon on in case you desire large passing a brilliant element shot and a coarse holiday for combatants then flow pronger. Igf you desire a extra experienced goalie and a guy who's extra offensively in contact with large restoration, and a stable Captain flow Niedermayer.

  • He's this generation's Lidstrom/Nieds.

He may not ever be as great as they were defensively, and I'm not trying to compare them skill wise--even though Doughty has probably as much skill on the blue-line as any of these young D-men.

But he will surely be seen as one of the best defenseman in the game for a decade and a half, if not the best. Like those two have for their careers. Which in the end, I do think he will have Hall Of Fame numbers, but that's a long way to go, and we haven't seen half of what his potential can be yet.

Doughty is good, but I think Duncan Keith is a little better than Doughty.
