How to stop drinking sweet ice tea during pregnancy?

I am 11 weeks pregnant and well aware that caffeine should be avoided in pregnancy, but I can't give up that cup of sweet ice tea. I usually have one cup of ice tea each week, will this harm the baby? Has anyone drank caffeine during pregnancy and baby was ok?

I worried about his with my first pregnancy!! When you are pregnant, it is ok to drink caffeine in moderation. If you are used to drinking a large amount of caffeine, then you are supposed to limit it. My doctor told me that it is safe to have 8 oz of coffee a day while pregnant. And tea has even less caffeine than coffee. So I say, go ahead & have your cup of sweet ice tea once a week! Enjoy!! :)

My sister drank regular Pepsi everyday with all three of her children & they all turned out beautiful & healthy! Don't worry so much! :) Congrats on your pregnancy!!

Studies seem to show that having one 8-12 oz serving of a caffeinated beverage (like coffee or soda) is not enough caffeine to harm the baby. My OB even recommends drinking a sugary, caffeinated pop during the third trimester when I am concerned the baby isn't kicking enough. (In other words, if my fetal kick count drops below six an hour, I'm supposed to drink a can of soda and eat a snack and try counting again).

I try to avoid caffeine if I don't need it, but I occasionally had days where I just needed a little boost to get over the fatigue - especially since I worked the night shift during my first pregnancy. Some days I had a soda every other day. My baby was perfectly fine.

So I don't think one or two sweet teas each week will hurt you. Even a small glass a day would be okay. But if you really wanted to avoid caffeine, then make your own sweet iced tea using decaf tea. There are plenty of tasty herbal teas (I love Celestial Seasonings Black Cherry Berry - it tastes kind of like fruit punch) or you could use a decaffeinated black tea.

I did not drink any caffeine during my first pregnancy, but during my last 3 I did. I usually had 1-2 glasses of tea a day and all my babies were ok. The only thing that is if you drink too much caffeine and not enough water you can become dehydrated easier.

You don't have to cut out caffeine completely, just drink it in moderation. My doctor told me that a couple of cups of coffee, or 2-12oz cans of pop a day would be fine when I was pregnant. I am a BIG sweet tea drinker, but what I did was switch from regular iced tea to decaffeinated when I was at home. This way I still get the satisfaction of my glass of tea, but without the caffeine.

They sell caffeine free tea, just drink that kind.

A glass a day of normal sweet tea won't hurt the baby. Small amounts of caffeine are fine. They just don't want you chugging 8 cups of coffee a day while pregnant.

You might just need the bit of extra sugar and you might like the salt from the chips. Have you taken your gestational diabetes test yet where you drink that sugary drink and then you get your blood drawn? Moderation is key and a mini sizes bag isn't that bad. Im not a doctor but in my opinion, it shouldn't effect your baby too bad. I know every pregnancy is different but my 2 month old is fine. By the way, my doctors encouraged me to eat more fruits since they liked the natural sugars in the fruit rather than sugar that's in processed foods (frozen pizza and etc.) Also I was in the hospital for 23 days and my doctors let me eat past 7 pm. I ate right up until 9:30 pm. I was eating 3 meals with 3 small snacks in between.

OMG, I have the same problem. I was drinking at least one big cup of sweet iced tea which has caffeine but I have been ahving so many contractions that the doctor told me to stop. And I said what about decaf and he gave me a weird look. I guess decaf adn caffeine are all bad. It really dehydrates you and because of that it irritates your uterus. I have been drinking nothing but water and although they are still very uncomfortable, they are not as many.

It took a bag and a half of IV before I went potty and they told me that I was so dehydrated and need to quite drinking that stuff adn only drink water so I would say definitely drink a ton of water to make up for the tea youre drinking.

I can't beleive I did it but I stopped witht he sweet tea now for 3 days. It's been hard but I have been focused on water, water, water.

    Good luck.

You don't have to give up caffeine completely during pregnancy. There has been no research to indicate that moderate caffeine intake is harmful during pregnancy.

One glass of tea per week certainly isn't going to harm your baby. You could even have 1 glass per day if you'd like.

I did drink caffeinated beverages during both of my pregnancies, yes. I'd usually have 1 coke or pepsi a couple of times a week. My sons are very healthy. :)

You can enjoy your cup of tea. YOu can have up to 200 mg. of caffeine per day, and since tea has much less caffeine than coffee, that's quite a few cups.

  • You don't have to totally give up caffeine while you're pregnant. You can have up to 200 milligrams a day. Since you only have it about once a week, there's really nothing to worry about. I usually have a pepsi once a week, and sometimes another caffeinated drink one other time per week.
