what is the point of life? we all end up dying anyway?

what is the point of life on earth, the majority of it we just suffer. so why do we live? the joys in life only last for a moment but all our suffering stays with us forever. ive always just wondered, life seems a little pointless.

The first thing I see is that you are very intelligent. So, I am not going to make light of your question, but I’m guessing that there must be something precipitating this emotion. Maybe a break up with a girlfriend or boyfriend, parents getting a divorce, some stress about entering college or moving to a higher grade in school, I don’t know. It is your life so you will have to look at whatever has changed recently and try to put whatever it is back into perspective. Imagine for a moment that you are taking physics in college. You know that when the semester ends there will be a final exam. Death is kinda like the final, final exam! Now there are two ways you can approach this: One, you can stress out about the final all semester long then cram the night before and hope you pass. Two, you can study your notes everyday and make sure you understand each topic as it is presented so that the final will be a breeze for you. Which method makes more sense to you? The sooner you learn how to adapt to your surroundings the quicker life seems to make sense and figuring life out is the secret to its meaning. Whether or not death of our physical body is the end of us doesn’t make your life any less important. Your actions are what give your life meaning. I’m a nurse on a cancer ward and my job improves the quality of people’s lives. Some people see what I do as extending suffering while others see it as giving hope. If you spent a day visiting with my patients they would quickly convince you of how valuable every moment of life is and how important it is to make each moment matter! All knowledge and wisdom begins with the question “why.” Ask your mind and listen with your heart.

We are here on the receiving end of things to serve a purpose for the projector of those things. Without eyes that see nothing can be seen to be. Nothing is the only thing that could be realised by that which knows everything. We are the negative pole of creation, like a battery the spark of light that we know as life exists as a connection between two poles. The positive pole sometimes referred to as God needs us so that every experience can be seen to be in an overall balanced sane and meaningful way. Eternity alone would be a terrible reality, so, really we just help to pass the time in an interesting and totally creative genius way. All life belongs to the source of the light and ultimately all experience belongs there too, so although it may seem from an unenlightened point of view that some things are unfair the reality is that that is not the case at all.

There is no death, only variety.

The point of life for a modern human is to discover and find answers to the countless and beautiful mysteries in this world and the rest of the Universe.

Life, knowledge, and whatever skills/talents you have acquired since childhood are precious and should be imparted to all those close to you, including those more disadvantaged than yourself. I am sure there are millions around the world who have suffered more than yours, through major natural disasters, ill-health, financial losses, homelessness, etc. And those who can't even use any written language, as well as you.

Look for all the silver linings in the dark clouds. Go out and seek for the gems of opportunities that may be lurking just around the corners of your neighbourhood, state. There is great fun when you muster courage and interest to overcome difficulties and challenges. Keep searching for the tips and answers for harmony, peace and happiness on Y!A for the next several months, and your life will change for the better. Never give up because there is always hope, and miracles. Try new adventures like Taoist meditation, tai chi, metaphysics, I-Ching, Alternative Medicine, numerology, and other equally beneficial pursuits. Om Shanti! :-))

Well, we can readily conclude that the point of life is not

to live forever. So, I suppose that your question is, why would

anyone want to live if they can't live forever. I can only tell you

my time is not spent on worrying about dying. I think the point

of my life is to live it in real time. To encounter all the trials and

tribulations that occur in it and to do those things that tickle

my fancy without being weighed down by the difficulties

life brings. It took me a long time to figure out what was

important and what was not and to accept the things that I can't

change. Today, I know that my experience only has meaning

to me. Each of us has to run the gauntlet to find out that

having understanding and giving it to others is an exercise

in futility. I can't give you a way to understand and appreciate

a life. You either will or won't come to a conclusion on that

through your own living. I wish you well and can assure you

that, if you persevere, you will arrive at a satisfactory

perspective on your version of the human life. I don't

think that death actually plays role in that.

Yeah if you want to be kinda emo about it then yeah its pointless. But its all how you look at it. Yeah theres good times and bad times but Suffering and pains of life only stay with you if you choose to carry it around with you. Who cares why humans are on earth. By evolution, god, coincidence, who gives a rats a**. no one knows for sure anyway. so why worry about it? Live your life the way you want to. Since we're all gonna die anyway like you say, might as well have a kick a** life before you do, right? Why not? nothing to lose. That's the way i see it.

True, we all end up dying in the end. But that is the reason why we have no time to spare. We only live once so instead of being miserable, have fun. You have forever to be dead, but a short while to live, so I say have as much fun as you can so that you are satisfied in the end. It's true that the times we have suffered are more memorable, but why can't the joyful times be more memorable instead? Just because life is short, that doesn't mean it's pointless. Make it worth it! :)

Lots of questions you ask there. They are all science based. All of which limit the information you seek. You assume there are truth in the definitions of what earth is, what dying is, suffering vs. joy. etc.

My answer is that you are not asking the right questions. You are telling me about your symptoms so to speak. Get honest about your own projections and keep exploring with all the honesty you can muster.

Questioning and exploring why it looks to be the way "fill in the blank" is for you. From the sound of it you find lots of lack in the paradigm you have become to experience as life.

Me-- I still wonder if there is really anyone else but me in the universe or just me and my projections. I really don't "know" that anything is what we all collectively have based our agreements on. Example-- as "my dog" sits next to me I wonder what he was before he was a dog. Yet we all assume we know he is a dog.

Who says we are supposed to be happy anyway? You can say the same about suffering as well.

Lastly, I'm waiting around to see if we really die. It can be quite boring one you get past the wow factor that everyone claims life has to offer-- when it's our own eyes and ears we take what we want and project a life from there.

    All Ends Up

Yes.. life is pointless. Across the universe - life, especially sentient life.. is a quirk of the right place & set of conditions - to happen. It really is a bad 'mistake' of physics. Animals suffer too.. often horribly. We are just stuck here.. to - maybe enjoy a little, but not for long.. and then wither away & die. So many billions have suffered across time.. exploited by the 'religions' (Cults).. die in dirty.. filthy wars.. just to make the rich - richer.

The truth & reality of our existence.. is kept as far from everyday existence as possible. Now you know why.

    A good question.

I think moments like vacations, movies, dinner with families, makes life having a "point."

Dying comes. But it is not the end of everything.
