Why aren't the gospels of the other apostles included in the Bible?

I've had this conversation with a couple of friends and I'm curious what those of you on this board have to say concerning this matter.

Update:

Great feedback guys, I really appreciate it. A number of you have left great comments!

Update 2:

Man, there have been some great answers from a couple of different angles...It's going to be difficult to choose a "best answer" because I like a few for various reasons. Thanks again for the feedback everyone!

In the year 325, the Roman Emperor Constantine called all of the christian church leaders to Constantinople to hold the Council of Nicya. The Roman Empire was falling apart, and he wanted to use his new religion as a force to unite his crumbeling empire. He selected the parts of the bible that furthered his cause and were common beliefs. Anything not included was ordered destroyed as heresy.

Not all of the Gospels were put into the new testament because they did not support what the emperor wanted. This is why we now have found missing Gospels (Mary, Judas, Infant, Paul) it was a selection process by men, not by god.

The simple truth is they were all undoubtedly illiterate.

The four gospels are attributed to Matthew Mark Luke and John.

Attributed means they are labeled with these names to give them more credence, but were probably written be someone else.

What you need to remember is that the bible was compiled under the auspices of the roman emperor Constantine in an attempt to bring all of the various belief systems of the empire under a common faith.

The result was to be the universal or catholic faith. The word Catholic is derived from the Greek adjective καθολικός (katholikos), meaning "universal".

There is nothing wrong with this and I do not mean for it to sound derogatory. You just need to realize that it is an amalgamation of the various faiths and the dogma and theology of these belief systems. Even assuming benevolence on the part of Constantine’s people, making this all make sense would have been a monumental task.

The bible relied heavily on Jewish scripture and the New Testament was highly modified to support Paul’s teachings, which included such localized ideas as blood sacrifices to wash away sins, virgin births and resurrection of deceased deities.

Sadly much of the central part of the Jesus theology was lost in the blended mythology. A mythology was created around a great teacher comparable to the Buddha and he was turned into an amalgam of all of the Mediterranean deities. His teachings on love and non-judgment were all but lost in a maze of judgmental often-vindictive gibberish that he would have never agreed with.

Sadly some of the greatest teachings of all time were all but lost in Rome’s effort to be all thing to all people

It was St Irenaeus of lyon who chose which four Gospels to use.

Irenaeus declared that the four he espoused were the four "Pillars of the Church": "it is not possible that there can be either more or fewer than four" he stated, presenting as logic the analogy of the four corners of the earth and the four winds (3.11.8). His image, taken from Ezekiel 1, or Revelation 4:6-10, of God's throne borne by four creatures with four faces—"the four had the face of a man, and the face of a lion, on the right side: and the four had the face of an ox on the left side; they four also had the face of an eagle"—equivalent to the "four-formed" gospel, is the origin of the conventional symbols of the Evangelists: lion, bull, eagle, man. Irenaeus was ultimately successful in declaring that the four gospels collectively, and exclusively these four, contained the truth. By reading each gospel in light of the others, Irenaeus made of John a lens through which to read Matthew, Mark and Luke.

No those gospels aren't reliable and their theology is not comparable with the four Gospels. The only one that has some credibility is the Gospel of Thomas.

Read the Gnosis, and you'll discover the reason. Christians need to keep everything at a distance away from themselves. They have a God that is invisible, and an after-life that they live for, (they live to die) its all about faith, and the books written by other "apostles" don't concur with the imaginary.

Simply, because God did not lead them to be part of scripture. Scripture is God's inspired word written through yielded believers.

Because they did not completely conform to the elites agenda and were probably considered too "spiritual" for the masses.

They were "not inspired by God" according to people who were not inspired by God either; when they assembled the bible writings.

Satan attacked those apostles and used their writing to wipe his bum.
