Spilled water on laptop?
I was halfway through an extremely long and GRUELING essay when I spilled a bottle of water on my laptop. The screen then faded to white and then to black. I turned it off immediately, unplugged the cord and set it down. I used a blowdryer to clear out the water inside, and a towel to get the water on the surface. I have the following questions:
-How can I fix the laptop?
-If it does fix with no problems, will my document be recovered?
You don't have to answer both questions, only one.
Add'l Info:
It's an HP Pavillion, I believe. The operating system, if it makes any difference, is Windows XP.
I have gone on websites such as eHow and About to see what they had to say, but I've followed all their instructions and it doesn't seem to be draining.
I hadn't saved the document-I use Word 2007 and was wondering if it had an autosave feature that could save my essay.

Unfortunately you're pretty well out of luck. When it comes to the water damage you can try putting it open, covered in rice. Just natural rice, no seasoning or anything. The rice *can* help, but it won;t really fix it, it might give you some more time but the laptop will still have problems and crash from time to time. And that's only if it works which is unlikely. It's a trick used for cellphones, and the principle is the same, but it would take a lot of rice and the circuits are likely to covered for the rice to do much good. Even if it does, you're not getting you're probably not getting your document back. Sometimes your system will have a back up, but the water damage that shut it down would have prevented the backup.
Ultimately you're probably going to have to get it fixed professionally which means new circuitry. It's probably cheaper just to get a new laptop in the end.

Let it dry out for a couple of days and then turn it back on. If it doesn't work open your laptop to retrieve the hard drive and save that to use it for another laptop. You can also buy a used laptop and swap hard drives to continue your essay. Or you can have it fixed at a computer shop but that'll be pretty pricey unless you know hook ups. Good luck! Sometimes my pc freezes and I have to restart my pc and word still saves the document as is without me having to manual save it.

stick it in a bag of rice. Seriously this will suck all the moisture out of it. Leave it in there for a few days
